1992 325I: FAULT CODE 1-2-2-1: Bad Oxigen sensor!

Hi All
My car is surging when it warms up, especially when going up hill. Problem is worst when temp. is warm(85F or higher in driving environment).
The check engine light goes on off sporadiclly. I get engine code 1-2-2-1, which is "unplugged or broken oxegen sensor", http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarticles/Mult-Code_Reading/Mult-Code_Reading.htm.
Any recommendations? And what should I pay to get the this oxigen sensor replaced? ... car is not passing smog check.
