2003 Monte SS, punching throttle...

When I'm doing about 50km/h or so and I really want to pick up, I punch the throttle but get a really delayed response. Compared to the girlfriends Grand Am GT, hers is pretty much instantaneous. Anyone know what could be the issue or if it's even an issue???
Thanks

Start with the basics. Check your air filter to see if it is clean. Pull it out of the air box and take a look. A little trick is to hold it up to the light. If light can pass through it is probably ok. I try to change my air filter about every 12,000 miles.

Chevrolet has an excellent fuel treatment/ fuel injection cleaner. It is a little expensive but it is the best one I have found on the market. You can pick it up at the Chevrolet dealership. This one really does work. Also, try a higher octane fuel and/or a different gas station (89-92octane). If you have been filling up with fuel containing 10% Ethynol that can take a little performance away. If you like to use a high octane consider this. With higer gas prices the higher octane gas is not selling as fast. So the fuel gets old and looses its kick. The other thing to consider is that gas stations are stocking less in their high octane tanks and you could be filling your car up with a little sediment. Luckily, the fuel filter will catch most if any of the sediment. However, over time it will lessen fuel pressure to the engine due to blockage. So if you have not changed your fuel filter in 25,000-30,000 miles I would recommend it.

Finally, I have a 2002 Monte Carlo SS. Our cars have never been known for performance. The front wheel drive and large body make it drive like a big car of the 70's with a smaller engine. Your girlfriend's car is a lot lighter than ours, so she could even have a smaller engine and still be zippier than us. My wife's 1998 Cavalier can beat me off the line with her four cylinder. I have experienced everything before mentioned in this post and have gotten results. Try this and see if it helps.
