Hey, my name is Shawn, I am from Wisconsin. I recently bought a '96 Dodge Intrepid about a month ago. Im not sure exactly what is up with it. Maybe someone here has an idea? It is jerking on shifting randomly. Then sometimes it refuses to shift pass 5th gear I think? When it hits 50-55 mph, it doesnt like to shift, thats where I feel the most jerking around. Yesterday driving home from school it killed, coasted onto a road off of the highway and then it started right back up and drove fine all the way home, which was another good 20 miles. Its really confusing, it isnt a consistent jerk, it randomly happens, randomly kills on me. Today coming back from lunch at burger king it killed when I was sitting at an intersection and I started it right back up. I felt like I was driving a stick shift. Any ideas on what may be wrong? Worse comes to worse and I have to replace the tranny, how much do you think that would run me?

Sorry for the double post, but also when it kills, the car isnt jerking or anything, you can barely notice it, the RPM's drop all the way to zero and the check engine light comes on, so you have to come to a stop to start it back up.
The engine jerking is a different problem, the RPM's will drop from wherever they are, to about 750, then it will like catch gear or something, the car will jerk and then itll go back to normal and drive. Im pretty sure its the transmission, but ive been told it could be alot of things? I dont know really... I was reading through my post and thought I would clarify on the problems.

I am having the same Problem. Just last night the car Stalled out on me as I was driving on 322 outside of Philadelphia and I was able to restart the Car but than I only got a Mile before it happen again. I had my brothers look at it and they want me to replace the air intake hose on the top, back of the engine. The hoses look to be dry rotted so that is my next step to fix my car. It was doing the jerk as the car changed gears and I had the transmission looked at but I was told it was ok. At this point I am not sure what is wrong with it but I am trying all these little things first. After changing the hoses I want to give it a tune up with spark pugs and spark pug wires.
