I recently gutted a beat up chevy caprice to use as a field bomber and am attempting to rewire it using just a switch and a push button. I have it wired so that the switch and the push button are operational to run the car. The question I have is how to wire the alternator into the system. Someone told me all I needed to do was run a single wire off of the post on the back of the alternator and then I might possibly need to run a second wire from the switch to the alternator but i'm not sure where I would run it from or to. any assistance would help or if there is a website out there, feel free to point me there. thanks for the help. if you need more information, i will provide all that i can.

If you have a "1 wire alternator" you just need to run a thick heavy wire to the battery.

If you have the three wire alternator (1 big wire, 2 little wires in a connector), you will need to include the external voltage regulator in the wiring. Wiring diagrams should be fairly common for the Caprice they have been around forever, check your local library.

What year of Caprice do you have?

Its an 1983. I have the factory service manual, so I should be able to get the wiring diagram out of that. I just wasnt sure what i'd need. And where to wire it in. I guess i'll take a look at the wiring diagrams and see if i can figure out where it went before.

Its an 83.
