95 Crown Vic Lights

I have a dash light problem with my Crown Vic.
The lights on the doors dim out after shutting the door like there suposed to...
The dash lights stay on. Also the dimmer does NOT work.
When I remove the dimmer switch the lights stay on. There is no way for them to go out except pull the fuse.
Any ideas? Is there a realy somewhere that I can change? Is this a security feature??

this may or not be your solution but my lights did that shortly before my headlight switch stopped working altogether, id pick up a new headlight switch from your favorite auto parts store for like 15 bucks and a half hours worth of work. solved all of my light problems pertaining to the switch
