Man, its been awhile since I've been to this board....How's everyone been doing? Of course, I've had nothing better to do besides work on the old truck. Let's see.......what's changed on the old setup since last time.....

For starters, I yanked out the little 224 cam and went with a 235/239 598/598 114........should make alittle more power upstairs where I need it, and being on that 114 should definately be more beneficial to the nitrous....oh, yeah, speaking of nitrous :grinyes: I'm now running two seperate nitrous kits on the truck......One nx nozzle kit on my first stage and a NOS brand plate kit for my second stage. I figured since I couldn't hit that big shot off the line, I could just pill up the first stage as high as it would go traction permitting, then fill in the rest with the second stage when I got out there. I also went up on my stall size a hair to a 3200 over the 3000. I'm really looking for some 11.20s this time around, but don't expect to see this stock 6.0L in the truck for much longer......a nice little forged 370 is in the works for Dec with an sts turbo kit and alittle nitrous to boot. :naughty:

Anyway, old timers post up and tell me what everyone's been doing...If anyone is interested and close enough, the lsx shootout is coming to Memphis 12-14 and I'll be there trying my best to tear this truck up.

nice, with 11.7 on old set up and now with much beefer cam and 2 stage N20, idk 11.2 is damn fast. What else do you have done to the engine/tranny? Nice street truck btw

Engine is a bone stock internal lq4 6.0L with cam. Heads are 317s milled .030 with light port/polish work. Springs are Comp 918s. Transmission is a fully built 4l60e with Fuddle truck performance 3200 converter. Still running a 3.73 gear for mostly street racing and the stock posi was replaced with an Eaton unit. Custom built cai, thorley headers, and a true dual magnaflow setup with two cutouts for the intimidation factor for exhaust. It's tuned by Nelson. It's a very basic budget friendly setup that has been in the truck basically for 3 years and has taken everything I've thrown at it. On the 224, it went 12.40 on motor, but since nitrous has come into play, its been plagued with traction issues. I finally broke down and grinded down the rear calipers for 15" wheel fitment, so I'm looking forward to running the big et drags at the track. It went a 1.7 60ft on motor on some narrow M&H drag radials on 17" wheels.

nice setup, have you dyno it yet?

nice setup, have you dyno it yet?

Only time I had it dynoed was when I had the timing WAY down for the nitrous and a quirky o2 sensor.........It dynoed 361hp and 383tq on motor and 450hp/463tq on the 100 shot

I haven't had it dynoed with the replacement of the bad o2 sensor, retune with slightly higher timing, new cam, and the 200 shot its sitting on now. I know it feels like an absolute beast now.

I really need to go with a different intake......I'm not getting near the meat of this cam peaking horsepower at 5100 rpms :grinno:

Man, I thought you might have gotten your head stuck INSIDE the intake!:grinyes: Things are still the same old stuff here. Working, taking the kids to soccer on the weekend, playing saxophone at church on the weekends, trying to camp/fish/sleep whenever possible. Our AC went out at home last week, so there went a few thousand out the door, but at least we're cool again. Other than that, nothing new.

One question I did have for you: With all of that beating, how has the engine held up? I know I can feel confident that the engine is probably the most durable part of the truck!

Send us pictures of the work if possible. I get a kick out of seeing parts all over the place! Take care.

Sincerely,
Matt

I know you have said that you have burned through multiple 4L60e's. Why have you still gone back to them time after time. why not build a 4L65E or even a 4L80E (I know the 80e is heavy and sucks up its share of power, but you build an 80E onces and your done, most likely never have tranny problems again). Have you considered moving up to the 6.2L and 6L80E that now resides in the Escalade and Denali. Believe me im not trying to second guess you, just curiosity has got me.

The engine has taken everything I've thrown at it without a hiccup. It still doesn't burn any oil, and there's zero noises in it. I honestly can't believe its taken the abuse being a stock internal engine. Here's a few pics from the cam swap(notice the puller we had to fab up because one of the inner tabs on the crank pulley broke off using a three arm puller

The puller doing its thing to the crank pulley.......

I'll be sure to get some pics up with the two nitrou kit setups soon :grinyes:

To be honest, most all of them have fallen under warranty work from each builder. I'd really like to see how far you can take a built 4l60e before making a swap over. If this one goes after the warranty expires, I'm definately going to a 400 trans with a trans brake and about a 3800 stall :evillol: As little as the truck is actually driven on long distances, I think I can now live without the overdrive. It would be so fun to come off the trans brake at a redlight beside a sports car. :grinyes:

I would love to give the 6.2L a try, but I've gotten a line on that fully built/forged 370, and its just too affordable to pass up. It's very low compression, so I know it will be able to take alot of boost from the upgraded sts kit and the small shot of gas I plan on putting to it. I'm shooting for having everything needed to make the swap in Dec. I'm shooting for well over 700hp this time around and still be streetable.
