95 accord ex *shake*

So, my 95 accord has an automatic tranny (if that matters, which i imagine it does) and it gets to shakin' something fierce at around 1700-1800rpm once it gets above or below that range its fine. Any ideas what is causing this? Is it a serious issue? Thanks in advance for any info / thoughts.

Shaking while driving? Check the balance.

Engine shake? You can do it with the car sitting still?
Hard shake like a dead cylinder, or just a vibration?
Timing/balance shaft belts been replaced lately?

seems to only do it while moving. its a pretty hard shake, very noticable, but like i said only when its around 1800 rpm. o and i'm not sure about the belts, i have only had the car for a little over year.

Always been like that, or just start recently?
I asked because there's a balance shaft belt and timing belt that get changed aat the same time. If the balance shaft is phased wrong, it'll vibe at certain rpms real bad...

only recently, fyi it sat for 6 months and i have been driving it again since august. it has 166k on it.

Ahhhh.....I just caught only while moving....with the sitting it makes sense. The tires are flat spotted.
Air them up to slightly more than what they need (about 40 psi) and drive it down the highway for a good 10 miles or more.
I just went to Florida this spring to pick up a CR-V my mom bought from a guy down there. It only had 1900 miles on it, the guy's wife had died right after buying the vehicle. It had been sitting for about eight months without being moved.
Shook like hell once out on the road. I aired them high like I said and drove it for a ways, I could feel it going away.
people will try to tell you radials won't flat spot from sitting. They are WRONG. There's steel belts in those tires that "take a set" and end up distorted on the bottom after a long time of not being moved.

ok, that makes sense, but i did move it a couple of times over those six months, and if that was the case, i guess i don't understand why it would only do it @ 1800rpm wouldn't it constantly be shaking if it was the tires???

I think I jumped the gun...you're saying it was OK after beginning to drive it again, and it just started this....I got confused on the sequence of events. Forget the tires.
Can you hear any change in the exhaust tone when it happens? Still trying to figure if it's a misfire or an actual harmonic coming from something out of balance....usually they'll turn on the service engine light and set a code for repeated misfires once detected...so it seems likely it's not that...
I wish I could tell you more, but without seeing it first hand, there's too many ways to go with it.
Do you notice it as you decelerate, or just when under power?
Does it seem to happen in each gear as it goes through that rpm range?
Does it occur for a longer period of time as it gets into higher gears (as rpms build slower) or just initially as it passes through that range, same in each gear?

it happens we accelerating and deccelerating, through every gear, just through that 1700 / 1800 rpm range.

All I can think of is an out of phase balance shaft if it's not a misfire....can't really think of any reason why it would misfire just in that range.
If it's due for a timing belt, pull the cover off and see if there's a couple of cogs missing off the balance shaft belt...it could have jumped...
