I am replacing the valve cover gaskets on my 97 Passport, does anyone know what the torque is on the cover bolts? I hear you don't want to over tighten them, Thanks

PLEASE note that's INCH pounds, not FOOT pounds. Actually had a guy here torque his valve cover bolts to 88 foot pounds. Yes, the he broke bolts.

Had a similar story on the Jeep board. Dude way overtorqued the bolt that holds the speedo gear retaining bracket in place by mistaking 80 something inch lbs for 80 ft lbs. I can't imagine he got much past 20 ft lbs before the bolt snapped.

Thanks for the responses, although I had a question.......Does 12 inch pounds equate to 1 foot pound? I tried setting my wrench to 5 foot pounds assuming that that equaled 60 inch pounds? Thanks

Thanks yes you can make the conversion. the problem is, torque wrenches are not very accurate until the middle of the scale, and at those low values a little off in ftlbs equals alot off in inchlbs.
