Fuel pump fuse problems

Greetings,
My 98 GTP 3.8/AT with 125,000 miles keeps blowing fuel pump fuses (3 now)
car history is at 70,000 miles the fuel pump died and was replaced along with the fuel filter. About 1500 miles ago on a trip I was passing a bus and stomped on it hard, car revved up nice and then tach went dead...aftercoasting to a stop I found the fuel pump fuse was blown and replaced it. Stopped in the next town and got a new filter, replaced it and the car ran fine until 300 miles ago when my son was driving away from a stop light (not sure how hard he was leaving) and the fuse blows again. Today my Wife is 60 miles away driving up a long mountain pass and the fuse blows again (wife not happy at all!). This pass usually requires the car to shift down as it is pretty steep. I've looked thru most of the forums but havn't seen anything quite like this....ideas anyone?

Well, it is quite obvious you have current draw exceeding the rating of the fuel pump fuse. i.e. a short. Have you tried replacing the fuel pump relays? There are two relays since the GTP has a two speed fuel pump. The fuel pump and fuel pump speed control relays.

Also, do a visual inspection and check the condition of the fuel pump resistor.

Thanks a bunch, BNaylor!......... Replaced both of the relays and did a 500 r/t to the football game yesterday and back today through several mtn passes and didn't get a single hiccup. May your team win this weekend also!
