Help With Purchase??

I am planning to buy an '07 Cobalt in the very near future. I'm not that picky as far as color and such, but I do have some preferences. It must be 5-speed manual and have a 4 cylinder engine. I'd prefer two door but that's not important.

I'd like to know what everyone says about the 2.2L I4 engine, and the 5-speed tranny??? Good and bad, I need to know what to talk about with the salesman. What should I be aware of?? I hear the steel rim wheel covers squeak, any more?? Also, what is a good price for a new car (what I can expect to pay, VS. What they want me to pay?)

Check to see what incentives are available in your area. Not sure if GM is still offering the "GM Conquest" rebate, but that was $500 off if you owned a non-GM vehicle. I got that plus a $2000 rebate. Basically my 2007 was $14600 (sticker) - 2500 = $12100. You might also qualify for recent college grad or first time buyer or military rebates. You can't go wrong with either trans, the 4T45E auto or Getrag M86 manual. A 4dr will be cheaper to insure, but I'm guessing a 4dr, 5spd would probably be hard to find anyway.

In the Cobalt satisfaction link below there's a fair amount of praise. I for one really like my 07 LT 1 sedan W/Auto. FWIW I was a SUV, pickup, wagon driver for years.

The 2.2 Ecotech has well proven itself.

It's a good board, but not the liveliest as you can see.:uhoh: Poke around, do some searches and research. There's not much to say. It's a good econo car. The best bang for the buck in this class IMO. Most of your Cobalt forums revolve around the younger, tuner crowds. Not the 'older' dudes like some of us, trying to downsize. Gone are the big RWD, carbureted V8 beasts we used to hot-rod around in.

What's with this, "older dudes"? LOL Ya' ok I'll admit it. Had a blast with my mid 60s thru late 70s Heavy Chevy's. But this car, considering everything, is almost as much fun.

They really are. It might be because of being used to only big heavy trucks and SUV's over the years, but the fun hasn't worn off for me yet. I'll miss my 4x4 the first Buffalo blizzard, but then again, we got by with only rear wheel drive cars years ago.:runaround: Some of those cars were pretty 'off balance' too.
