Well a month ago I changed my radiatior, and thermostat because my car kept overheating. The reserve tank overflows and leaks everywhere, my thermometer went above 60 percent and at times there was no coolaint in the radiator. All this was suppsosedly fixed when i got my new radiator. But LAST NIGHT while driving across the bay to Oakland, and caught in heavy traffic my temp begins to rise slowly jumping bit by bit. If i kept the car moving the temperature would drop, if i was completely stoped the temp goes up. And also that same night I installed an axel back exhaust. I didnt know what to blam and since that was the only thing new added to the car I suspected it, but then agian this was the first time i drove a long distance with the new radiator. Anyone had this problem or heard of it before let me know....I did bring it to the shop to get it check like 3 months ago they told me that I have a small leak in my headgasket, and that my water pump also has a small leak. My dad said that is not the problem cause if it was the gasket there would be more problems then that. anyone that can help I would greatly greatly appreciate it...

Well on my dads old civic he had a leaking head gasket and he changed the thermostat and such. That didn't fix the problem and it sounds like you have the same thing he did. If your car is overheating it's a good idea to get it fix before the head warps. My dad had the problem if he's moving ti's fine but if it stayed still the temp slowly rises. This is just his car so I don't know.

thats exactly what is going on Beldandy. If i stay still my temp rises...did your dad eventually fix this problem..the thing is that the head gasket is a very expensive to replace. sure its a flimsy little thing but the labor is horrable, and worse I dont know to many people that are mechanics so I have no refferals. I dont want to get my head gasket replaced and then still have this problem..Belldandy can you find out if he ever got it fixed and what he did to fix it i would really appreciate it..and the thermostate is new only 5-6 months old. My dad said the original one seemed to be in good condition still when he inspected it.

if you head gasket is leaking then you should get it changed. what color smoke is coming out of your exhaust ? it should be white smoke if your head gasket if leaking. also if you radiator isnt full sometimes than maybe you got air pockets in your cooling system, that would cause it to run hotter than normal. also make sure you cooling fan comes on. also if your water pump is leaking then that would cause pressure lost causing over heating. so you should replace your headgasket and water pump if its leaking. you should change your water pump when changing to head gasket because the timing belt iwll be off and it will be easier and cheaper

haha what did my dad do? He didn't do a damn thing. he left it like that. Well he paid like 500 bucks for the car and he's not gonna pay 500 bucks to fix it. So he left it like that. Problem was it got worst and he had to fill it up 1 bottle of water since radiator fluid was expensive. But on his second car he also got for like 600bucks it was in better condition than this one and he fixed the head gasket on that one and the problem went away. Man after the first one died we took the engine apart and man the crack on the headgasket was crazy.
I--I about that wide at the widest point.

And yeah what color is your exhuast smoke? it shouldn't have much of any color once warmed up. but it if has a slightish white tint then it's radiator fluid. Smell the exhause if it smells sweet hats also a hint.

you need to swap the head gasket and water pump these are 95% most probable the reason. Like ol boy said your gonna warp your head but that may be your best bet than you can upgrade to a V-TEC eng.:)

well dude since you changed your radiator and thermostate i would guess two things. one would be the water pump and second would be the head gasket. its hard to tell if it is the pump sometimes but to tell if you have a blown headgasket witch im guessing because you said that your radiotor over flow was over flowing than just do a compression test and it will tell you the cylander that is bad. good luck though. and you wont throw any codes either.

after my car is warmed up there is no smoke. when it is warming up its white but that is just normal. the smell how ever smells normal to me. What would be a reasonable cost to fix the headgasket and waterpump if i bring it to a shop. Also sorry for my ignorence but what do u mean by "throw codes"..

sounds like a head gasket to me, at a shop i guess it depends on cost of living where you are. Around me timing belt, water pump, drive belts would run about a $8 or $900...

also do a compression test hook up the pressure tester to your raidiator pump to your radiator caps limit then start the engine if the needle on the pressure guage starts to fluctuate your head gasket is definately blown.

works like a charm;) and who's going to pay for it to be fixed? Your insurance? Yes, that's a wonderful idea  hope you can afford your insurance going up a ton to replace a motor and possibly some front end pieces.

When you put the new coolant goods in, did you bleed the system, making sure there are no air bubbles?
