89 Corolla Issue

Hey All,

I have a 1989 5 door hatchback Corolla with the 1.6L carby Engine.

I was driving on the highway when all of a sudden the car just lost power and died.. won't start again. I've already checked the timing belt, it's all in 1 piece and looks fine. It's not turning though, neither is the rotor (obviously). Just wondering what else I should look at.

The bottom cog doesn't appear to be turning either.

Regards

Paul

i have seen the timing belt strip out lugs at the bottom cog which is the crankshaft cog. it will let the crankshaft turn and not move the belt which has to move the rest of the cogs. if it does this then it will get out of time and will not start . if you look at the lifters through the cap that you put oil in on the valve cover and get someone to crank it over if the lifters don't move when it is cranked over the the belt is stripped out
