2000 Passat 2.8 no start/lock problem

I have a 2000 passat 2.8 . The car was started a week earlier and it ran great, started right up. I first noticed that the car remote would not open the drivers door lock but opened all the others. The drivers door lock worked fine from inside with the control on the door. Then I tried starting it. It cranked over great but would not fire at all. Is there a theft mode that the computer goes into because of the locks or are they separate issues that I am having. Where should I start.
