i have a 95 rodeo, 4x4, 3.2l v6

the car starts up perfectly every time. After driving a few miles and i come to a stop at a light, or something, the RPM's go up and down....sometimes go below 5oorpm's and then stalls. Starts back up okay as long as i keep my foot on the gas and keep the rpm's up. i also noticed it does this if i hit any kind of bumps or rough roads.....i replaced the throttle position sensor but that didnt do it. No CEL, plenty of gas, new spark plugs, and fuel filter.....

could it be the idle air bypass sensor? Bad fuel injectors? O2 sensor? :shakehead

I'd start with the idle air control valve on the tb. Clean it out and check the pintle.

As a new owner of a scan tool, which helped two problems this weekend, I'd try to pull some codes before throwing parts at it. That's easy for me to say, though, as I'm sure you'd have bought one if you had $125 to spare.

no codes....at least the check engine light isnt on. my work has a scanner that i will hook up to it tomorrow...maybe that will tell me something

Might still find a code. I went through this Saturday with my VW. Would stall out on me. No light, but it was throwing the MAF code. New MAF and drives like new. Keep posting!

well someone has the diagnostic tester from work so i couldnt check it. i used a jumper wire and found there were no trouble codes stored in the PCM...just flashed 12. hopefully i can get it checked. i heard a loud ticking today while looking for the tester, it would tick then go away....came and went with the idle going up and down....i think its an injector :disappoin

the only code a scanner will get that isn't already an illuminated MIL is a type A code that will light the MIL when the condition is repeated. So no MIL, no need for a scanner.

You may have a badly cracked PCV diaphram. Unhook the PCV solenoid and see if the car idles correctly. You will probably throw a code, but it will self clear after pcv is hooked up again.

How can that be? My car was undriveable despite the CEL not being on. And the bulb is good!

I was wondering if you found out what was wrong with your rodeo because mine is doing the same thing. starts fine as soon as engine warms up the check engine light comes on then wants to stall and by the way the speedo quick working

the code is the place to start. it will be stored. my guess it's something to do with the egr or 02 sensor systems since it needs to be up to operating temp for those to kick into....but read the codes
