not goin into gear

I recently noticed that my car would have trouble goin into the gears. I would have to push very hard or turn it off and put it in gear, then restart it. Today i got in it and i started it up in N and could not get it to go in any gears. So i turned it off and put it in reverse. When i tried to restart it, the car would jolt back like the clutch was not in. I called my cuz and he said he had the same problem with his GSX eclipse. He said something about a metal bar coming from the tranny right by the passenger wheel. He said it was bent and took him 30 min to fix and the part was about $40. The bar is also shaped like a T. Does any of this sound correct?? my car is lowered so as of now i cant look under it.

GSX's have bars instead of shifter cables I think, so no it's nothing like that. Sounds like you have a clutch problem, any fluid in the clutch fluid resevoir?

Yeah I was gonna say it might be a clutch problem cuz I had soemthing similar, though I noticed that the clutch itself was wearin out way before it actually stopped going into gear.

Its hydraulics. Check the slave, the master and check for fluid in the resevoir

Sorry for the lack of feedback, comp crashed and been without one for a while. I'm takin it in soon to see what the problem is. Any idea how much hydraulics or fixing the clutch would cost?? As far as my clutch wearing out it never seemed like something was wrong. It just kinda stoped goin into gear easily for a day then the morning i got in and it stoped... so Fluid?

You are going to be anally raped if you take it to a shop. If you have any common sense, some handtools, and a manual, you can get this done.

Sounds like a slave cylinder to me.

not trying to hijack the thread, but i've been having trouble getting into reverse. didnt wanna start a new thread since its kinda the same general topic. It goes into and shifts through all the foward gear fine...but sometimes it just simply wont go in reverse. ive gotta inch forward a little and try it then.

alright so i checked it and i have no fluid in my clutch lines. So ii'm goin to have to fill it up and bleed it. To help me find the leak are there any spots that are more prone to leak than other places?

My clutch pedal had worked fine for two years and all of a sudden lost all pressure and I can't get it into any gears. The pictures posted aren't coming through either. any way I can update my browser or something to get them or would someone mind emailing some to me? I'm a complete noob and don't know where my master or slave or whatever cylinder is/are or what it/they look like. any advice would be greatly appreciated. '94 SL if that matters. Thanks in advance.

yea slave cylinder... i got mine replaced for 150 bucks parts and labor and filling up the lines and bleeding it... i didn't think the price was too bad, and for blink a have the exact same problem, i have to go forward a little bit and then it will go into reverse, i think i heard someone say it's the syncros...

as for the reverse thing, mine almost never goes right in but instead of pulling forward a bit just let the clutch out EVER so slightly till you feel it begin to catch and that should move the gear enough that if you push back as you do it the gear will go right in. after a little practice a passenger won't even notice thats what you're doing. as for the slave cylinder, where is it? cause although i wouldn't mind having a mechanic swap out parts i do want to see if I can bleed it myself and see if thats where the leak is coming from.

my slave cylinder sits a little below the air intake, you know where you see the transmission then a little to the right.... and you should see it, if it's a n/a it should be a blue color, if it's turbo it should be gray i believe... once you spot the slave cylinder it will be obvious if the leak is right there...there might be a small puddle, that is how i was able to determine my leak
