My son and I have a 65 Rambler Classic 550. We are having some electrical problems with the car. The end result is that the battery goes dead. We have replaced the altenator, starter, voltage regulator, and battery and still have the problem. The alternator light remains on when we start the car.

Does anybody have an answer or a suggestion for us.

I also want to know what is the correct battery that I should be using for the car.

Thanks

General rule on battery size is by the CCA being 2 times the amount of engine cubic inches.

On our 68 I have found switching over to side mount terminals over the traditional clamp on style cables resolved ALLOT of electrical issues. Have you done any diagnosis to track the problem IE: valtage across the battery or alternator output testing?

you may have a dead short. you can check this by disconnecting the negative battery cable and use a test light connecting it to a good ground spot on the car and touching it to the neg terminal. if the light comes on then its time to start tracing down the short. it may be time consuming but it works and will generally be the easiest way to figure out electrical problems.
