i screwed up....again!

So, I was painting the centers of my Castrol Supras rims white. I am using enamel and they look like complete crap! How can i strip the paint off and retain the shinyness of the rims? Thanks!

This isn't a chat room, you can't wait 39 minutes and expect a clear and concise answer.


Now, if the rim has chrome plating on it. You'll have to strip everything and then start over in which case you could saved yourself the wait and read this thread in the FAQ:

BTW, to replace the chrome plating you will want something like Alclad.

enamel you say use mineral spirits but dont over do it

Mineral spirits will be a pain in the butt and probably won't take the chrome off (not without a lot of picking and scraping). Use oven cleaner. Let it sit for an hour and the plating should lift right off, taking the paint with it. If not, let them sit for longer (like a week) and the paint is guaranteed to come off. And why do they look "like complete crap"?

Well, after letting the paint set..they don't look too terribly bad. haha. I'm gonna put another thin coat on tonorrow, then detail and decal them. Wish me luck!

Yes, but some members of this forum are strongly against this, because there are other, much safer products out there that work just as well.

Isopropyl alcohol. strips everything, FAST.

I'd guess that you sprayed white directly on chrome? if so, then you probably got a bunch of fish eye looking blemishes? it's because the paint won't stick to the chrome. the trick to painting chrome is lots of VERY THIN coats letting them dry for at least 10-20 minutes between coats.
