gauge fuse blowing when put in reverse

95 t100 sr5 v6 standard--- My buddies truck- He keeps blowing the fuse for all of his gauges, but it only blows when he puts into reverse. I dont know what exactly would cause this. I thought the only thing hooked up to the reverse is the reverse lights. Anyone know what this is?

Make an enlarged copy of the wiring diagram and use a hi-lighter to trace the circuit.
He could have a couple of damaged wires on unrelated circuits and when the reverse lighting circuit is energized something is either shorting or overloading. Check the wiring loom for damage.

I had this problem on an '81 Toyota once after having the clutch replaced. The windshield wiper fuse kept blowing and it took me forever to figure out that it was happening every time I put the car into reverse. It turned out that when the mechanic put the clutch back together, he pinched the wire that runs from the switch that turns on the reverse lights in the transmission housing and it was grounding out. I'd check the reverse light wiring and see if there is a grounded wire. The gages are probably on the same fuse as the reverse lights.

I had this same problem on my '04 Sequoia the very first time I connected a trailer to the 7-pin trailer connector. I reseated the connector and the problem went away. It hasn't come back.
Maybe the trailer wiring is a place to start.
