That's crazy... if that was the law here, I probably would have been able to buy the damn police force a Ferarri cop car by now lol. A grand for failing to signal's pretty lame though. Better start buying bus passes runaround

Other six-point convictions include "failing to give a proper signal," "passing a school bus" or "driving with an obstructed view." The same $1050 assessment applies, but the conviction remains on the record for eleven years.
Fucking rediculous. How do they get off figuring that a "failure to give a proper signal" should stay on your record for 11 years? I seriously question wtf they were thinking when they made these laws up. It even states:
"The purpose of the civil remedial fees imposed in this section is to generate revenue," the new law states. (Virginia Code 46.2-206.1)
Generate revenue? Over $2,500 for just 15 mph over the speed limit? In my dad's day, he got caught doing 100+ through a town in his '71 Charger and all he got was a small fine and his license suspended for 30 days. Granted what he did was really really wrong, but it just makes you wonder how they go from one extreme to the next in 25 years.

I was doing 155mph in a 50 mph zone back in Alaska in like 2002 and went flying past some state trooper hiding in the woods at 3 am...I think he was sleeping then heard me bomb by but anyways , took him a good 10 minutes to catch up to me but I didnt know he was there until he did catch up as I was pulling into town :/ Fucking gay..eh..oh well.
Anywho , ended up being hit with felony speeding and got reduced to class 1 misdemeanor and a 1,800 dollar speeding fine , lost my license for 30 days and 45 hours jail time XD...they didnt even impound my car ...fucking left it to get broken into at Fred Meyers parking lot =(
Being young + extremely powerful turbo car + 30 mile straight stretch basically + no traffic = Bad combination :/
The only thing that stuck though after like 10 court appearances was the fine unfortunately..lol.

I've been pulled over 3 times: 50 in a 35, 60 in a 45, and 48 in a 30. The first two were legit, but the last one was bull shit plus I had expired insurance. First two were verbal warnings and I lucked out on the last one with a written warning for speed and I had to provide current proof of insurance withing a couple days. I learned my lesson though, now I rarely speed and if theres no one getting all antsy behind me and the road is shitty (like a lot where I come from) I go under the speed limit.

I was lucky enough to only get cought speeding once, it was like 3 days after i got my license in a grand am... long story short i was toping it out on a stretch and after i hit like 117 i started slowing down because of a curve. A couple miles later i got pulled over and the trooper told me that he somehow determined i was speeding because he clocked my time from point A to point B and he came up with 75 in a 55.... I dont know what really happened but i was just really happy to get 75 instead if 117, lol. Probably got boned by some bullshit the cop pulled out of his ass but yea, what are you going to do?
Oh and yea, thats really really stupid, not signaling = thousands of $'s in fines? WTF? Thats like getting your fingers chopped off for stealing a piece of candy when you are 3 years old, its just not right...

Actually, that is a perfectly fine and legal way to judge speed. If you make it over a 10 mile stretch of road in 8 minutes then by definition of average speed (distance/time) you would have had to go atleast 75mph for atleast a little while to make it that far.

True however cops are like construction workers...not the brighest group..which is why they work in those fields..I would challenge any 5-0's math skills for judging speed and distance in court.

That's a pretty generic remark, I know a few cops who are intelligent people and can do math with the best of them. Not all cops are drooling idiots out to get you.

Agreed. All either side would need to prove/disprove it in court would be the actual measurements and the time taken to get from A to B. Obviously, the cops time is going to get believed over yours but distance is undeniable. And driving the same roads 8 hours a day 5 days a week I bet a person would get pretty good at judging distance.

Trust me , the SLPD is full of mormon rejects that can't tell the difference between something moving and something parked. TOo many times was I pulled over in my Camaro going 45 + mph in a turn lane , parked waiting at a red light , the list goes on. Of course I have gotten out of almost all of my tickets by challenging the police who pulled me over in court as to whether or not they were competent to make calls and seems not so..
I was pulled over in my Eclipse for not using my back up lights the entire time I was backing up...you know when you back out of a stall then do a smooth transition into 1st to take off..yeah..go figure.
Cops on a whole are idiots and full of bullshit that just want to hit their quota. Our governor even stated the Sandy police department is going to be one of the countries highest revenue generating police forces....guess what that means ? Bullshit is what it means. There are a few exceptions but not many because as far as I can tell, not many people really get their rocks off writing tickets to teenagers and impounding cars because they have carbon fiber tail lights - only an idiot.
Not all police everywhere , just here and Alaska it seems...how lucky you are.

That sucks my ass, I got pulled over on Wednesday. I was doing 112 in a 65 when a bug splattered on my windshield. I then slowed down and arrived at a red light like 5 minutes later and the cop said he clocked me at 103! I'm going to have to go to court>:(

I won't argue with that one. But that dosn't make them unintelligent people. More times than not the guy driving the eclipse is going to do something stupid/dangerous/illegal over the guy driving the station wagon.

The other day i was riding with my friend is his TT and this cops comes beside us talkin on his PA, "You better slow that car down, you were doing 65, the speed limit is 40 or im going to pull you over." Now why in the hell would be be going 25 over after we just pasted a cop. We might have been doing 45-50 TOPS. Plus if we really were going 25 over he would have pulled us no doubt. He was just a dick I guess.

Yeah its also not a good idea to taunt the cop that pulls you over. If he asks you, "Do you know how fast you were going?" Do not answer him, "Fast enough for you to pull me over, slow enough for you to catch me." LOL, i only sais the first part and he was fucking fuming. But I'm guessing I'm going to drop about $800 on everything.
