:banghead: ok, so i cant get my 99 to fire up, i changed the computer today, to the linked 95 eprom (i was told it was in working order uppon purchase and it better sure as hell be!) i swapped 4 with 3, and 1 with 2, and the car just cranks, the DSMlink chip is burned for 950cc fic injectors, which are installed on the car... all lights on the dash work, and it turns over, but no firing... just keeps cranking, i have fuel pressure, but not sure about the injectors (i'm sure they are giving fuel they are brand spanking new!) then i put the plugs back to the oem place thinking maybe, just maybe for some reason mine wouldnt be switched... nothing happened... can someone explain to me from the cam side of the block, the order the plugs need to be hooked up!?!?! :banghead:

did you at least check for spark?

SilvrEclipse
09-26-2007, 07:15 PM
Yea you should check to see if your getting any spark. Just take a plug out and hold it in your hand and put the plug wire back on it. Have a friend turn it over. You will know if your getting spark or not. :iceslolan

 Yeah, dont listen to Silvr's silly ass, you would not be a happy camper. Just gound it on the valve cover or something and watch for a spark.

Is the fuel pump turning on? If you have spark and compression, the only thing you're missing is fuel.

Black99GST

with spark, it means my ECU is working though right? (i got spark) what would you suggest i do about fuel? pump is coming on, and i'm seeing pressure on my regulator gauge... WTF!?!?! my Link chip should (was ordered) burned for 950's and they are not working... how should i go about fixing this issue?

When my ECU went it didn't have spark.

i was talking to my dad, and he said sometimes new injectors come with a cap on them to protect shit from getting in? is this true? because if so... no wonder i dont have fuel... i never took any caps off... i have FIC 950's from extremepsi.com... dont know if that makes any difference?

WTF are you waiting for dude, thats like a 12 minute operation. Get 'er done!

Black99GST
09-27-2007, 12:14 PM
what? they do have caps??? are you serious!?!?! because they are already on the car... and dont wana take it appart again if its not going to solve anything... also, dropped that little black spacer from the fuel rail to the block, the one in the middle, and its fallen to the depths of the endless engine compartment, and was wondering if it would mess anything up if i just didnt use one in the middle of the rail?

Oh that little spacer pissed me off more than ever when I dropped it. It ended up being wedged in one of those little cracks on the lower part of the intake mani. I'm not sure how important they are, but I wouldn't want to run without it permanently. http://www.slowboyracing.com/estore/product.php?productid=2070&cat=2226&page=1 As you can see they're pretty cheap. I'm not sure about all injectors, but my 550's came with caps on them that I needed to take off. I wouldn't think that they would even fit on there with the caps unless you had to force it. But yeah taking the fuel rail off is about a 10 minute job. I would just go ahead and do it to make sure.

Black99GST

ok, checked it... no caps on the injectors, none that i could see anyway... wtf? i compaired them to my factory ones, and they look about the same only my new ones are way bigger... i have fuel in the rail, but not in the combustion chamber... my problem is the injectors... what can i do?

steviek

you put the injector clips back on right?
I lost one of the spacers once and just bought a new one from mitsubishi and ran it for a little while with only 2 its no big deal. After that I have always just glued them to the head so they stay on it when I take off the rail its one less thing to worry about.

Not to insult your intelligence, but did you take the injector all the way out and look at both sides? Was there anything stuck in the fuel rail, or anything stuck in the part that the injector goes into? Did all of them have the correct wires plugged into the injector? Maybe if you reinstalled the old injectors that worked, and it fired up you'd be able to definately narrow it down to the injectors.

When my ECU went out, I had spark and fuel. Car just cranked and cranked but never started.

Not saying that is the problem. But did you try swapping your old ECU back in and cranking it up? (Also remember to change the plug ordeR)

yeah, i'm going to swap the computer back right now... thanks guys! i'll keep you posted...

When they blow I think its just a couple capacitors that usually do it so it might be repairable.

Black99GST
09-28-2007, 11:47 AM
how would i look into getting it repaired?

I'm not quite sure about this. You would need to take it to somewhere that repaired electrical components. If you open up the ECU and take a look at the components, the capacitors looke like small round batteries. One may have busted open (My guess).

I know there are some internet shops that will fix them for you, but I think because of the market they may over charge alot.

If you look at the pictures this guy has. You can see what the caps look like, and what they look like when they leak (bottom picture) Although this is for a 90-93 ECU it's very similar.

i dont think i have any blown caps... i'll get some good ass pics and post them up here... the ECU works, its just fucked up... when i turn the key to the on position, it makes this "BUZZ" sound and you can feel vibrations inside the car... then i try to start, and my fuel pressure drops, and the car sputters, then just cranks... then i put it back to the on position, and it goes back to vibrating and loud buzzing! i dont know, but its pissing me off beyond belief!

Yeah, I'll take a look if you get them posted, I used to do this kinda work in the military, so if it's a visual thing I may be able to spot it. But gripes and problems like this may no always be visual. And perhaps it may be a matter of one of the components in the ECU being fried.

If I can't see the damage it sounds like you got the shit end of the stick if you ask me. Where did you buy this from?

update time! ok so i sent the computer to a friend of mine who owns uprev engine management solutions here in Austin, Tx... and he found a few problems with the ECU and fixed them, well, i brought it home, and no luck again, it sounds like the relays are clicking on and off like MAD (tons and TONS of clicking... almost buzzing) then when i try to start , it just cranks and cranks... so... i'm looking for another eprom ecu... i'll get pics up though... maybe it'll be worth it... how do i post up HUGE pics?
