91 eng prob, head gasket?

My 91 pickup overheated. There was a lot of white smoke coming out of the tail pipe as well as some water dripping. I filled the empty radiator with water untill the smoke slowly started to go away. Not sure if I blew or cracked the head gasket. The oil stick wasn't white or cloudy. The next day the truck seemed fine but that night the same problem occurred. Any ideas of what the problem could be? Thanks.

It would help if we knew which engine you have.
A blown HG is common on the 6 cyl, slightly less common on the 4 cyl.
Can lead to a cracked head on either.
