OK so i was wondering what engine you would rather put in your 240 an sr20det or an rb26dett and why

If money and compatability werent an option, then definitely the rb26. But if i had to put down cash, then I would use the $3-4k I saved in custom fabrication to beef the SR20.

i just relized that i didn't say what i would rather have. i would take the rb26dett because eventhough it cost much more in costume work you can tune to much higher levels of hp and its more reliable

in the states Id say a SR20DET is more reliable, atleast most mechanics might know of the SR20DE in 200sx's, there is no RB series engine from Nissan in the states. Plus the Sr is lighter and more quick revving, Id rather take it in a 240sx. Not to say a rb26 isn't badass, Id just rather have a skyline then a RB26DETT 240sx.

If I had to pay for it then I'd take the SR but if somebody else was paying, RB

I've been to Japan. I've been in 3 180sx's with the CA18 About 400hp, SR20 about 500hp, and RB26DETT about 600hp. I would go with the SR20. the RB26 was just WAY too much engine in the car. Great for dragracing, almost useless as a streetcar. somone spits on the road and you have so much torque that your tires spin. Ok, it's even like that on dry pavement. When Nissan says "Enjoy the ride" they mean it.

my rb26 is on its way here so I guess you know how I voted.

sr20detpower: what makes you think that the sr is quicker reving

fliquer: in my estimation 3-4K of custom fab work is a little high guys contrary to popular belief installing an rb-series engine into a 240 isn't nearly as "custom" as what it may seem. furthermore in a couple of months I'll have a kit to do so.:)

wow i was planning on putting a rb26 in my 240 too but it is very custom and for my engine and some minor mods and install its going to be right around ten grand

I would go with the rb26. Because not too many people have it in there 240sx. And if you do see a skyline (and what are the chances of that happening) they will give you some respects

sr20det for the Silvia unless I could create an 4 wheel drive Silvia with the altecca et-s system with it.

the weight of the car would make it much harder to take around turns, and the drag times would suffer a bit cause all the weight would be in the front, on a rear wheel drive car you tend to need weight in the back to launch better.

if you have the cash I say do it. Im currently working on my own rb26 project. Its not that difficult as it seems

i choose the sr20det, i like how many parts are readily available and they are cheaper than rb parts. also, i'm not planning on HUGE hp or torque #'s, so i'd stay with the cheaper sr20det, and be insanely happy with it, like i am now.

I personally would go with the sr20det because to me it seems like those engines were ment to in the 240/180sx cars.Cheaper too.Plus here where I live there are NO 240sx'x hooked.Just rims, exhaust, and spoiler.I bet those 240 owners probably never heard of manufacturers like Uras,JIC-Magic,Trust,Vertex,TODA just to name a few.I just got my rps13(for 600) wed. night and have big plans already.Show these ricers what true power/JDM is...

Where are you getting your swap done? Is Santeca doing it for you?

sr20det, much cheaper with still great power for a road car

yeah I also like the fact that the SR20 is an engine that was put into the car from the factory. This has a few points to it that just can't be beat by any other setup unless u prefer the CA18. It will be more reliable then a KA24DET I hear. Its easier to install, everything was designed for this car, not a skyline... Also its the engine that is matched for the car. Alot can be said about that, again the only other engine to possibly compete with that is the CA18. Its how the engineers designed the car to handle and its balance of power and traction. You know a mustang would be even crappier IMHO with say a S2000 engine in it instead of its SOHC v8, even though they have the same amounts of power somewhere through their powerband.... just certain engines work best in the car they were designed for.... if you want a RB get a Skyline like I said earlier...

Agreed. The SR20DET is a great engine. It works well with the car, not too much hassle to swap, and still capable of being tuned to mad power. Personally, I would leave the RB26 with the skyline here.

I am doing my own swap i.e. Sub-Zero Performance show car.
