05 4.6 engine. The filter is up high on the right side of the engine and what kind of tool do I need to loosen it? Can't get the strap wrench on it so figure must need a filter socket type wrench.

You can get the regular wrench on it, it just takes a little manuvering. We have started using the 3 jawed filter wrenches. Seems to work better.

If all else fails, stick a screwdriver through the middle and start turning. Its just aluminium really, but watch out for oil! But I only had to do this with old tight oil filters left there for years. This is only a last resort method, try everything else before attempting this.
Another note: Its not recommended to tighten the new oilfilter that much, just enough is about right.

I guess that just enough would be about right LOL but how much is just enough?

you know, when you feel like its tight enough. No need for a torque wrench or any of that stuff.

I've had luck using a 2 piece oil filter removal tool I purchased from WalMart on many of my vehicles that have "hard to get to oil filters". The one piece is graduated to fit most sized oil filters and the other piece attaches to the bottom and has a square hole to accept a socket wrench or an extension that is attached to a socket wrench for more distance. It is orange in color and the last time I knew it was around $5.
