Sometimes engine dosen't catch on the 1st try, but it takes about 10-15 seconds of cranking to fire up on the 2nd try. A little quicker if you hold the gas to the floor. Anybody else have this situation?

If the engine cranks under full power but no fire and no check engine light, I would look into a fuel system issue. Faulty fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator.

I have had this situation with other Saturns as well as other types of vehicles. I noticed it only when I did not hold the starter on for long enough, and then had to try a second time. I have gotten used to my 95 SL2 starting just by touching the starter, it would be running immediately.
With other vehicles I have to remind myself to hold the starter a littler longer. The second try takes a longer crank because of the fuel rich condition that all vehicles have on start-up, particularly Saturns. The car will start faster with foot to the floor on accelerator because you are then letting more air into the intake to dilute the fuel.

check your starter yours might be going out or sticking. minimize the holding of the gas to the floor keep in mind its fuel injected and not carburated
