Nissan changing paint process for Daytona Blues

My dealer called me yesterday to let me know that my new Entusiast Daytona Blue was being held at port for reinspection because Nissan has noticed a problem with the process for painting the Daytona Blues. He described it as the color not being the same on all parts of the car.

At first I thought he was blowing smoke but after talking and seeing several pics from DB owners it looks like this really is an issue. I was told the process has now been changed and cars currently being shipped are being reinspected at the port by a quality control guy. I should know within 72 hours what the deal is with my new car.

I had the option of going with the exact same car in Brickyard. I live in FL so I thought the darker color might be a little much in the summer. Any thoughts?

Hey, Let me tell you, that the Brickyard is a real sweet color. When I first heard of it I was not really interested, I was a little worried about swirl marks showing too often. I was able to see one at a dealer here in N.J and the Brickyard is beautiful. There is a lot of Metalic in the paint and the shine was just awsome. The color is dark, but not too dark. as for the Florida sun, Well I see your concern. I lived in Florida for a while and I had a silver Acura. I like Silver simply b/c for me it is an everyday color that I can tolerate. If I were able to afford 2 cars, than The 350z in Brickyard would be definitly be one of my choices. I am waiting on a z in Chrome Silver(Feb) delivery. By the way The blue is also very unique. I know how you feel. there so many nice colors to choose from, that all of a sudden you find your self asking people what color they would like. Just go with your instincts no matter what color, it's still a Z..Good luck to ya....

I decided to purchase a Z and I ordered mine in brickyard... I think it is the the most beautiful color for that car -- the website just doesn't do it justice. Here's a good pic that is pretty representative:

Mine came in the other day and the paint looks fine to me. If you hear anything from Nissan on it please let me know.

No recall. It isn't like you can't look at the car and decide not to buy it cause it is badly painted. They are changing the process for future cars and reinspecting the ones that are still at the port.

I'm thinking about ordering a Daytona Blue Enthusiast. Have they already changed the paint process? or will they soon? I mean once my order goes in they probably won't start building it for a month or so I would guess.

I was told that the process had already changed and that they are just respecting the ones that haven't been sent to dealers. I am supposed to find out today or tomorrow what the deal is with my car. I'll be sure to pass on any other info about this issue if I hear anything.

I have seen every color the 350 z comes in in person. The Daytona Blue, and Brickyard are by far the best looking colors. THe Daytona blue is the best of the two. Everything on the car stands out with the blue, the rear lights curves ect. I have seen what I think u all are talking about the paint being differnt colors, and i think it makes the paint look better, i cant explain it u have to see it for yourself. The brickyard is a deep rich color, at night the car will appear black.

It seems the gas cap is a slightly different shade of blue, depending on where you are standing and where the sunlight is. Head on you would never notice it, but from a distance you can.

The paint is lighter on the plastic pieces like the gas cap, door jams, and bumpers. This isn't a matter of it just looking different-- it IS a different shade. Nissan is using electronic meters and can measure the shade of the color.

They noticed the problem on Muranos which use the same blue and decided to check the Zs as well which also had the same issue. It has been resolved for newer Zs.

My Z failed the inspection and was shipped back. My deposit is now on a brickyard enthusist-- but I haven't decided for sure.
