2001 Firebird exhaust system question…

A couple months ago I bought a 2001 Firebird V6, 3.8L automatic and I would like to put an exhaust system on it. I was looking into Flowmaster’s and I guess the only model that would fit my car would be the 80 crossfires. What type of sound do these put out? I was reading that some of the lower numbers like the 40s put out a deep mussel sound which I am looking for and some of the higher numbers like the 70s and 80s are a little more quiet but give you the same power. I know I am not going to get the mussel sound of a V8 but I would like something that puts off a mean sound. Are there any other quality brands out there that would work with this car that are under $500 and sound good? What do you all recommend?
Thanks, Tom

Thanks for the reply. I checked into them and it looks like the 15693 (http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=American&id=271) model is what would fit my car. Is this the only model or are there others by MagnaFlow that would fit? How does this perform and sound compared to the Flowmaster 80 crossflow?

Most people go with this setup. It's a little better designed and a little cheaper:

As for Flowmaster, they're design sounds good at idle, but gets really raspy/high pitched above 3000 rpms. Magnaflow does too, as all exhaust systems on a V6 will, but doesnt sound nearly as bad as Flowmaster does.

i was looking for a muffler for my silverado when i came across Magnaflow. magnaflow brags about being "WIDE OPEN".....but why spend all that money when you could install a WIDE OPEN straight pipe? i know you'll lose torque, but so would you running a magnaflow....?
