1971/1972 Chevelle Headlights...

I was wondering if it was possible to put the headlights of a '70 Chevelle onto a '71 or '72 Chevelle to make the '71/'72 look like a '70.

The reason I wanted to know is because I found a '71 or '72 Chevelle but I don't like the headlights. I don't like how there's one on the left and one on the right. I want to know if I get the '71/'72 Chevelle can I make it look like a '70 Chevelle?

The 70 and 71 Chevelle shared the same body style and structure. The grille, lights, light buckets, trim and fascia were different. All these pieces attach to a substructure which is them bolted to the chassis and fenders.

The front bumper is also different and would need to be swapped.

If the front fenders and hood are the same, this probably would be an easy swap. I am not sure about exact bolt hole location, but it should be similar.

It may be an idea to locate a '70 Chevelle and have a very careful look, complete with accurate measurements to see if they will swap over.

Some minor head light wiring mods will be needed but that should be easy.

Good advice. O agree that since sub structure is basically the same it should be a fairly easy swap. About 20 years ago i had a 1976 Monte Carlo. What I really like was the 1973 models, but couldn't find any in decent shape. So I came across a '73 front nosepiece and bolted the whole thing onto the front of my '76. The '76 came with quad rectangular headlights, and the '73 came with just 2 round headlights. I took my time and carefully re did the wiring up front to accommodate the change from 4 to 2 lights and it was successful and i was pleased with how it turned out.

Any estimate of how much it would cost for all of that to be done by myself or a mechanic?

While it seems like an easy swap, the body lines are quite different between the 70 and 71/72 -- what you would have is an any-car look where the front fenders and hood, etc. will not match the doors and the rest of the body lines.
