Replace short bed on S-15 GMC

I have a 95 Sonoma S-15 with right rear damage to the bed. Has anyone had experience switching out beds on this model? I understand they are welded on instead of bolts. Is it possible to drill out the spot welds and use bolts to fasten replacement bed?

I can probably get another bed for a couple hundred $ but I'd have to get it off and replace mine. Shops want an arm and a leg because of the labor.

Oops. That should have read '98 S-10. Not likely much difference though. Also have learned that the Sonoma bed does have some bolts from the bottom that supposedly make it much easier to switch out beds. Any experienced advice still welcome, and possible leads on getting a used bed (prefferably red). -Dan

im not so sure that they are welded on i helped a friend of mine remove his
S-10 bed and only found six bolts on his and also only six bolts on the donor truck. so you might wanna take a look for yourself before paying anyone.
