95 lincoln continental does not start sometimes

My lincoln will not start sometimes. I will turn the key to start position and nothing will happen. I will then release the key, let it return to "run" position, then I will turn the key to start position again and nothing will happen. (by nothing will happen I mean the engine does not turn over) I will repeat this several times and eventually when I turn the key to the start position the engine will start right up as if nothing was ever wrong. Putting the car in neutral or pushing the shifter into park while turning the key (to make sure the neutral switch is activated) does not make a difference. Any recomendations to fix this problem will be more than appreciated.

1st:
Remove, clean, inspect, and re-assemble every battery cable connection on BOTH ends of those cables.
While on the Starter side of the positive cable, also remove, clean, inspect and re-assemble the smaller Solenoid wire.
If no fault is found during the above process you might have a fault at the ignition (electrical) switch.
Is there a starter Solenoid "CLICK" heard when this failure occurs?

okay... I will check those items. Yes you do hear a click when you turn the key, a single click then nothing.

If that 'click' is under the engine.. that's definitely a a faulty starter solenoid.
In some cases you can replace the inside contacts and contact plate nside the solenoid, but most folks don't like to get into stuff that deeply, and just replace the whole Starter/ solenoid assembly.
I had a Camry for awhile, when I hit that solenoid a bunch of times 'click' 'click' 'click' 'click' 'click' it eventually ran the starter.
