I have a 91 tghat does the exact same thing. But it seems to only do it when it is hot, and has sit for a while. Its like it gets vapor locked. Mine when you you turn the key on you can't hear the fuel pump start up. I've noticed if you leave the key turned on without trying to start and leave the door open after a few minutes it will start. I talked to a mechanic and he said that he thought that there was a fuel pump relay under the drivers side dash somewhere that was causing the problem, and that it could be bypassed. The problem is i don't have the 100-200 bucks they would probably charge to fix it. I'm hoping that someone on here will know how to fix the problem. Next time yours does it listen for the fuel pump to kick on..

Fuel pump relays are like $12 and plug in like a fuse...just replace it yourself...

Sorry...I don't know if the main relay governs the fuel pump on yours, but if so they are about $40....

Good question. I can't remember.
If I get to the library soon I'll look it up on Mitchell and see.
Most times with relays, they will be located together, so there will be 3-5 all in the same place. They are generally the same part #, so I'll swap them around with another one and see if the problem moves to the other system. If so, then I'll replace the relay.

I Have A 90 Accord & Was Told That A Common Problem Is That In Hot Weather The Main Fuel Pump Relayrelay Doesn't Work .....the Car Was There For A Muffler & I Began To Explain Starting Issue. He Said Just Open The Doors & Let It Cool Off & It Will Start. It's Getting Cool Now So I Don't Know If He's Correct......hasn't Failed To Start Lately ! Hmmmmm?
