Now this is weird. I broke the alt belt on my talon dl. so i put the belt on today . a friend was helping and i he didnt unhook the batt. so he cause a arch. now the radio or brakelights and dome light only works when the car is started. Does anyone know what might be the cause of the really messed up problem???:banghead:

I really dont know what would cause them to only work when the car is started. I would check fuses to see if anything blew. Also check to see if you are getting any power when the car is just switched on. Im sure it was just a quick spark so nothin major should have been hurt.

I would check the fuse, maybe it didn't fully blow.

 Fuses are blown or not blown there is no inbetween.

This sounds like a pretty complicated problem, I would suggest going to an electrical professional. Maybe thats just because I HATE wiring with a firey passion.

Check all your fuses, I'm sure you just blew one. I bet it blew the alternator fuse which is this big wierd looking fuse that is clear on top. Just check all your fuses.

Why? Wiring is fun. You learn about what to connect and not to connect things too. Are sparks are pretty.

But seriously I have to agree with everyone else. Sounds like you blew a fuse.

The 1.8 motor is the weakest of all of them. If you just want a little more power, do the normal H/I/E. That should get you a few more hp.

I only suggested this because I have seen it before. I work for an electronics co. and have seen it happen twice in the 10 years I have been here. Its rare but does happen.

I've heard once that if an alternator belt is too tight then it can't spin as it should, I mean really tight....so tight you can't turn it over?
