I got a 2002 mustang gt 4.6 2v its stock all around . 2 day I did a burnout I turned the track button off(as 2 disable the system) and then just powerbraked it(its an auto) only on tire left a mark it was still pretty sick lots of smoke and pissed off neibors but only one tire left a mark and I thought a v8 should make both tires leave a mark ?? Whats up this is ? Is only 1 tire spin or do both

Sounds like you need to rebuild your T-loc.

In the days before ABS and limited-slip differentials, it was normal for the right rear wheel to do most all of the spinning. The torque of the rotating driveshaft to the rear axle tends to lift the curbside end of the rear axle, and to push down on the drivers side of the rear axle. To get both wheels to spin you needed to have a limited slip differential. Front wheel drive cars dont have this situation.

to make sure that you have a limited slip diff lift the rear tires off the ground and spin one side if the other tire spins in the sam direction you have a limited slip if they spin in opposite directions you have an open diff.

after a certain amount of miles you will be spinning one tire unless you rebuild or replace your trac-loc

one thing i have learned since i started working at an auto parts store is that with out visually checking it is hard to tell what you have in your vehicle. we have people come in give us the right vehicle info and still get the wrong parts becase someone at the factory put the wrong part on it. just to day we had a customer buy a set of brake pads for a chrysler town and country with 4 wheel dics brakes. but the front pads were the wrong ones. it used the front pads for the one with rear drums. just because the build sheet says that it has trac loc doesn't mean that it does. i have seen a 93-94 camaro with an automatic with 3.42 gears and everything that i read said that all of the auto camaros had 3.08's in them.

then i would have to look at the rpo codes but there not on the door or under the carpet in the turnk any ide were they would be alsp i nosed that if i start the car and just do a burn rightaway it spins one tire but if i drive like 1mile it burns both

look at the axle tag. but an open diff will spin both tires if they have the same amount of traction. the easiest way to so raise the rear off the grond and spin the tires.

so when i riz the car and spin the tires if its open they will spin in opiset rotation if its trac-lock they should spin in the same drirection

yes that is correct.

yes you do. as far as the problem goes it just may be a automaitc trans thing.

just because the build sheet says that it has trac loc doesn't mean that it does. Yes it does, 8.8's don't come with open differentials.

so what you are saying is that my 93 4cyl has a trac loc in it since it has an 8.8 rear axle.

so what you are saying is that my 93 4cyl has a trac loc in it since it has an 8.8 rear axle. 2002 8.8's don't come with an open differential, happy?

i was hoping that it did because that would explain why i can't power brake it and spin the tires like i used to.
