won't feed CDs

as the title says the stock stereo won't take CDs, the display indicates that there is a CD in already, which there isn't, pressing eject just spins the eject rollers, trying to push a CD in as far as possible doesn't help, with a CD in as far as possible, the eject button does eject the CD. Seems like the stereo thinks there's a CD in already........any thoughts?
