I'm pretty sure somebody has had this problem cuz it seems to be a common one. my mech. says there is a short somewhere in the harness from the comp. to the fuse box and I'm not quite sure how to go about finding it. I'm pretty handy at fixing my own stuff, but finding shorts are not my specialty. any advice on where to begin and what to do? thnx.

get a circuit tester, first off... then check the (two) wires that go from the compressor into the firewall.. then follow those same colors under the dash.

It's pretty easy.. you'll wanna test the circuit every foot or so tho, and check to make sure you're putting the right size fuse back in when you blow it.

Theres only one compressor wire, its one +12v lead to the clutch, there are however ac condenser fan wires, and a dual pressure switch. Start by unplugging the (one) lead from the compressor and turning on your ac, if it blows you know one of three things.

1. The compressor was not shorting to the block (good thing)
2. The line to it could still be shorting
3. It could be the fan motor shorting.

Then progressively move farther up the system unplugging as you go, head to the compressor relay and unplug. Then try the fan relay, making sure to plug the compressor back in.
