Anyone with 2000 Legacy Outbacks have "weard brakes"?? I can push the brake pedel to the floor with little effort. The car will stop, but this can't be normal. I was told at a cost of $700 this was normal only on 2000 model years. This true?

Well wrench, I am no mechanic, but I don't think what you are encountering is in any ways normal. I would get your vehicle to a mechanic asap.

My wife has an 06 outback and wagon and I don't like the feel at all of the brakes on that vehicle at all. I think it feels way too mushy for me. But that just may be a Subaru thing.

My 96 LeSabre was doing the same thing as yours only I did need new brake lines. I had one bad one, but the mechanic told me he'd have to put four new lines in because the remaining three were paper thin and they would disinegrate if he tried to fix the bad one. Apparently in that vehicle all four lines run paralell with one another and thus the need to fix them all at the same time.

My recollection is it cost me about $400 to get it fixed. So if that is what your mechanic has in mind (replacing all the lines) then your estimate is close.

Good luck!
