plug underneath my van

While I was replacing my speed output sensor yesterday, I noticed that there was a plug coming out underneath the van. It goes in between the enginge and the tranmission. I just wanted to know what it's for and why it's there. :confused:

was it an electrical cord type plug or? if so it's likely for the block heater,used in extreme cold conditions.
