I replaced the lower intake gasket and now I have a miss in the engine. The distributor is back in correctly and the wires are correct.
1.)When cleaning the intake could some carbon have come loose as I was spraying cleaner and plugged an injector??
2.)Can the injectors be pulled and cleaned off the engine and what would you use to clean them??
3.)Can the timing be adjusted or would a couple of degrees make it miss noticably.

I've tried pulling the battery cable and will not reset itself so I believe the miss to be mechanical and not timing issues:banghead:

Looking for some good help, Thanks !!!

You might pull one spark plug wire at a time to find the cylinder(s) that are missing then check those spark plugs.
Re-check all your wiring connectors & vacuum line. Is the power brake hose connected at the motor and brake booster?
Since ignition timing is computer adjusted, getting close is close enough to get a smooth idle although correct timing is necessary for best performance.

Replaced Cap, Rotor, and wires.
Everything the same, now it backfires through exhaust at an idle, not at higher RPM's

You may have two things going on here....

When I changed my lower intake gasket I ended up plugging one of the injectors by using carb cleaner around the injector poppets. But when an injector gets plugged it doesn't backfire through the intake. You'll just notice a miss from idle on up. To find out which injector it is, I would take it to Autozone or O'riellys and have them check the Service Engine Soon code.

If the missfire wasn't there before you took the intake gasket off, I would guess that you may have incorrect timing. Backfiring through the intake usually means incorrect timing. Did you mark the distributor before you took it out of the intake manifold or did you set it using the #1 cylinder mark on the distributor cap?

sounds like you put the dist in wrong the code will tell you if you did or if the scanner has live data look at what your cam retard is should not be more than+3 deg or -4 but can run fine as far as -20 this just comes from dist gear wear you will no if its out of time if the number is way out

Replaced the intake gasket and now I have a miss.I just pulled the distributor AGAIN and double checked everything and all is lined up to spec.
I have already replaced cap, rotor, and wires to no improvement.
I was confused as to why I was not getting a code and just realized the SES does not light up with the key on as it should.
This means it has either been disconnected, burned out or bad fuse.
Before I tear into the dash, does anyone know if and where a fuse is located for the SES light.
I've checked the 2 blocks and cannot find one specificly labeled as such.

Also if anyone can help with the miss,(plugged injector from cleaning?? )i'd be ever so greatfull :evillol:

I it has a code a good engine capable scanner should read code.
Also it will check cam shaft retard and have a code for missing cylinders.
It would be hard to plug a injector.
But you may have a push rod problem or crossed plug wire.
The engine timing is not adjustable.

If the engine is missing pull one plug wire at a time and see if RPM changes.
If no change you have found missing cylindxer or cylinders.

Ckeck this for setting dist.

Just went up to Autozone and pulled the codes

P0103 Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit High Input
P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected

Rechecked all wires, timing placement with TDC,Vacuum lines look good,

With these codes and the work I've done anyone run across something I'm not seeing??

Number one is getting spark, but missfiring

Can single injectors be pulled and cleaned??:screwy:

For the P301, you probably have a bad #1 plug/cracked insulator. That's what it was when I had that code, and it ran like crap and drove me crazy figuring it out because it first appeared after I changed the cap and ignition wires (the plugs had been changed months before with no problem). I figured it had to be related to the wires/cap because that is what I had just done. Turned out the insulator had a hairline crack and my disturbing it by changing the wires was just enough to push it over the edge. I'd replace that plug with a new one first (since it's cheap and easy) and see what happens.

Seems I may have stumbled across my problem.
Only wish I had taken the time to look closer before I pulled the spider out.

As I was cleaning the sand and grit from the spider I noticed one of the injector pins had bent over, Yep you guessed it, the corner pin on #1 cylinder.
I think that may be a critical piece as to the running of the engine properly.
Let you know in the morning :bricks1:

Amazing what can happen when it goes back together right :grinyes:

Running like a top now.

Thanks for the replies
