Newbie here, thought I would share some of my work

Hey all! I am new to these forums since I stumbled across this site. I have seen some very outstanding pieces on here and I thought I would share some of my work that I have been recently getting into. I have been fortunate enough to have been receiving commission work from some friends of mine through (link removed by moderator). I own a couple Mustangs and am a regular there. Well, one day my painter (who painted my 66) and I had a conversation about how I wanted to be an industrial designer and that it fizzled out because my portfolio was not abstract enough. I mentioned that I wanted to start gettingback into my art, particularly automotive. Well, he asked me to draw up a car that he was going to be starting on and gave me one direction....make it orange. Well, when I finished that I posted it and some orders started rolling in. I have posted a link here to all four drawings that I have done in this style, and can post more when I get them done. Sorry they are all Mustangs, but I have yet to venture outside of this forum to the others yet (plus I am a little bias ). I know that many of you are quite talented and any comments, suggestions, etc. is appreciated as I feel that I can always improve. My style is reminiscent of Chip Foose (who I would LOVE to meet one day...shook his hand once, but didn't get to talk to him. The medium for these is solely Prismacolor Marker on Canson Pro-Layout Marker Paper. Let me know what you think....sorry for the ramble, just thought it would be good to have the background.

Your marker work is beautiful. Keep it up with your Mustangs. It can lead to you being known as a Mustang only artist. There's nothing wrong with that.

Great stuff!:smokin:

Thank you all for yor kind words! I truly appreciate it. I am very fortunate to be getting paid for these things rather than it being an expensive hobby with no fruit.

Also, I am just itching to start some drawing on a 65 Nova, or 66 GTO, 71 Challenger, 68 Charger, etc. I can't wait. Being an all Mustang guy is not bad at all, but I appreciate and love all cars (to some degree.... :-), let's not discuss the rice rockets with bookshelves for spoilers. ). I want to see where this whole thing takes me. It is my goal to be an industrial designer for an auto maker of any size, big or small. Chip Foose is amazing and I am trying to emulate him without losing my personal touch and flare. I am hoping that my drawings will make their way around the country to different shows where I get more business in order to continue doing what I love. Mechanical Engineering just isn't as fun as I thought it would be (but I guess that all depends on who you work for). All pipe dreams at the moment, and as it has been said before, it does not happen ovenight...

Great designs with beautiful work on the reflections.

As someone who draws too many Mustang CAR-toons, I share your desire
to cross over to other models.
I've branched out to other makes/models, but my hand is so
very comfortable in creating any year of the Mustang shape.
Don't really need ref photos of Mustangs anymore.

Good luck and can't wait to see your next image.

Excellent work, id love to see some more, even if they are mustangs. Although your work is extremely good, im guessing you will progress EVEN MORE by joining up here.
Welcome to AF sketching and drawing, be sure to enter in any of the next competitions, and dont forget, no question is silly.

To answer what seems to be a recurring question, about 15-20 hours.

I want to be doing a 71 challenger for sure, but no one has commissioned me to do one yet. I mean, I could do it for myself and portfolio, but I find it tough to be taking time out fo my own drawing when there is money to be made with the 7 people lined up to get a drawing as soon as possible. I hope that one of my flyers will make it to one of the iconic car owners who MUST have a drawing. In time.

I will definitely be posting all my future drawings here. My next one will be of another 05 Redfire Mustang GT, but this time the backgound will actually be the customer's 65 fastback! It will be a blast. I love doing this.

It seems that the angle that the blue and black one is the most popular angle with the customer base. I personally LOVE the red one I did already. That may be my favorite as well, so far :).

How do I do it? Um, I don't know really. I guess I lay the darks down on the paint where I know the light is not directly contacting to create light reflections. I do not have a tutorial. Sorry :uhoh:.

I use Prismacolor Markers on Canson Pro-Layout Marker paper. I think that ordinary markers could be used if you use the right paper, but I don't think the ordinary should be used. They bleed more and are uncontrolled. That is my opinion. Plus, you do not have the variety of color shades like you do with some of the more expensive selections.

Hope I helped...prolly not.

I will have another one posted by mid next week.
