new 2k2 maxima not 255hp

its true the 2k2 maxima isnt 255hp at the crank its only 240, some maxima owner dynoed the motor and only got 240 ant the crank!!!!

nissian is in alot of trouble!!:cool:

Can you provide supporting documentation or links? I have a hard time believing someone would take the engine out of their brand new Max to Dyno it at the crank.

Question> was this done to a stock motor with less than 15 to 25K miles on it and also do you have more than one motor being dynoed?

The reason I asked these questions is to make you aware that you are going to need more than just one test of one engine (which I 'm certain you already know) and that you are also going to need an Altima 3.5 dynoed as well to do the chart comparison.

I don't doubt you or your friends testing of the 2k2 engine but I know that Nissan is going to come at you with all the lia, ahheem, I mean lawyers that they can shake out of a tree. Nissan is recovering from a heavy deficit (which I'm certain you are aware of) and for them to have to shell out reparations to all of the 2k2/2k3 owners for the lack of 255hp will be an all out war.

I'm certain that you understand this and my point being is that it is a lil too early to say that they (Nissan) is in trouble so soon. I believe I saw your username on the org. as well, is this where you are coming from with this info, well anyway, welcome to maxdriver auto forums we are glad to have you here.

I'm aware that you didn't actually have slips or charts to prove the dynos, but we weren't questioning whether or not you were lying, all everyone here wants is to see charts. You know how people are on these forums.
I didn't understand why the negative flipa attitude, that is uncalled for, noone was dissin you or doubting your credibility, we want to see results as much as those guys claiming the 15hp loss.

I'll share my dyno. I don't see how 194.1 front wheel hp represents 255 flywheel hp. My torque seems to be about right for the rating.

Larry, bro I'm very sorry that you only got 194.1 fwhp out of your Max, that is totally lame for something that is said to have 255 hp, I believe the only loss you should normally sustain between crank hp and wheel hp is around 20%.
That is way above 20%, you guys probably should sue Nissan to get what you paid for. I'm certain that the 255 hp was one of the main reasons you opted to buy the Max over any other car that is in it's comparable class and price.
Maybe Nissan should give you guys your 15 hp or either install a Turbo or SC with a warranty free of charge.
Good luck on whatever you guys decide to do about it, and I mean really do something about it, get what is owed to you.

Steve on Maxima.org is working with a lawyer to get our 15 hp back.

Most say 18% drive train loss with automatics maximum. If that is the case I should have dynoed 209 hp. That's my 15 hp they cheated me.

Yeah, Larry I been on the org and I hope that Steve and the lawyer plus everyone who got jacked do something about this mess. I kinda addressed this Nissan possibly fudging HP numbers on this forum but no one really replied. I guess maybe some of the guys on this forum only want to address the good things and not talk about the bad things that are common amongst our Maximas.

I put out a thread asking whether or not Nissan was using bogus HP claims, my thread was based on a comparo did by Car and Driver or one of the million car mags I read.
They did a comparo of the Lex vs the Q and the Lex with 290 HP outgunned the Q with 340 HP in 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

I guess my point is being sorted proved by the guys at the org with this Max vs Altima HP fiasco.

Anyway best of luck to you and a turbo would be hella nice.

Nissan would have dyno'd the engines at the crank, with no auxulries to slow anything down.

Add an alternator, a power steering pump and an A/C compressor even free wheeling, and you can easily lose 5-10hp.
Then factor in drive train loss, around 20% and then factor in 5-10% inaccuracy on the dyno, and another 5% to allow for other unknown varialbes such as altidude, air temp, engine condiditon etc and you will soon realise how Nissan got 255hp while you guys are only getting around 240odd.
Nissan has done nothing wrong, you guys just didnt test your engines in the same way.

Who ould put their brand new engine on a dino and pump out the gears without even breaking it in? I think its BS personally. Mine feels like every 255 horses it is guaranteed.

He said he made 194 front wheel hp not crank hp. Nissan claimed 255 crank hp not wheel hp. Front wheel hp is normally lower than crank hp.

If your engine wouldn't hold up to a dyno you better find out before the warranty is out. What do you mean "pump out the gears"? A dyno is done with the transmission in only one gear with no shifting during the run. Normally it is done in the 1/1 transmission gear for equal comparision to other dynos.

Since when do you have 255 hp just because it feels like it? Obviously you haven't been racing very long. The butt meter is not a measure of hp!

You're right I haven't been racing very long, but all I'm saying is that it would be stupid to put your brand new Maxima on the dino without breaking it in. I guess I just don't want to believe my faithful Nissan is lying to me and everybody else. Thanks for pointing that out.

Though some do, I don't run my engines to max rpm, full throttle either until they have a minimum of a couple hundred miles, perferably about 500 or more, on them. Many have dynoed and raced without damage but I agree with you on that point. But once broke in off the the dyno they go.

I don't like to think of Nissan lying to us either but with my 194.1 hp dyno I'm afraid they have. My Maxima feels pretty peppy too but that does not necessairly mean it develops the advertised hp.

Due to normal variation in production, it is not surprising that someone could get only 194 fwhp. It's called an outlier in statistics, and it just happens from time to time. Nissan isn't using bogus claims. I can't remember who said it, but in order for this argument to be valid, the EXACT conditions under which Nissan performed their dyno runs need to be reproduced.

I thought it was sort of weird that the new max's aren't running much better numbers in the 0-60 and 1/4 times in stock form than the 4th gen's. If you check any website that shows accurate performance numbers (can't think of any off the top of my head), you will see that this is true

That was me and I didn't say that they were using bogus claims, I asked if they were using bogus claims based on all the info and different comparison made on Nissan vehicles against similar vehicles in the various classes.
It isn't widely accepted in the auto world that a vehicle with 290 hp can beat a vehicle with 340 hp in the same class, add to that fact that the vehicle with 340hp weighs less than the vehicle with 290hp and the gear ratios are relatively the same.
In my book this doesn't add up, (this is based on the Q45 vs Lexus 400 comparo done in MotorTrend).

You may also want to consider that people who own these 2k2/2k3 Max's have been shamed by owner's of the 2k2 Altima 3.5 and have stated that their vehicles are similar in hp to wheel output based on actual dyno numbers.

Again, I ask, Is Nissan using bogus horsepower claims? All I can say is you do the math and look at guys dyno slips on the org from both vehicles and they will tell you whether or not hp claims from Nissan is accurate in the Max with 255 vs 240 in the Altima or the so called 340hp in the Q45.

In my book 340hp should walk all over 290hp with similar or same gear ratios and less weight. Now, do you still think Nissan hp claims are exact or are they fudging, you be the judge?
