I am considering purchasing a 1999 Chrysler Town & Country LXI. I currently own a 91 Dodge Grand caravan and my parents have a 2001 Town and country limited. I don't know much about this model what to look for etc. Its a silver blue van with 125000 miles on it. new tires everything in excellent condition except for rust starting at the wheel well. I will get that fixed for free. They are asking 3,500.00 for it. This is a friend of my dad who is selling it at a "special price" for me. Is it worth it? Thanks for your help.
I also have the option of buying my dads 2001 Limited with same miles for 8,000.

I would go with the 01, they changed a few things starting in the 01's. Eight thousand seems a bit high with 125,000 miles though. I would surely consider the driving habits of both owners. These vans don't like a hard driver, gets expensive. And about the rust on the other one, you should carefully check the lower engine compartment and the undercarrige for more rust. If rust is starting at the wheel well then there is probably other areas that are worse, like the heater lines that run to the back, and etc.. Just things to consider here. The 01's are more expensive to work on, parts wise too. This is my 2 :2cents: . Hope it helps and good luck!

Plug your info in here. You'll get plenty of info: http://autos.msn.com/default.aspx
Do a close inspection of the upper strut mount structure. They are known to rust out and can be expensive to fix.
Check the NHTSA website for recalls here: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/recallsearch.cfm
