Tire chains from Japan

I’ve been thinking about getting tire chains for my car lately. I currently have bran new Goodyear Assurance TripleTred Passenger All-Seasons which are really great except for snow (from what I hear). I know everyone is going to say “get some dedicated snow tires!” which I've used in the passed but under most circumstances, IMO NYC winters don’t really justify snow tires.
So I’ve been looking @ these tire chains from Japan (http://www.autoklene.com/product/biathlon). They are rated for 1,000km which is the best I’ve seen so far with snow chains. Does anyone have any experiences with these particular ones? Does anyone think they’re a BS product? The fact that they’re rubber instead of chain does make me wonder.
