Now with 100% more turbo.
Ya know that feeling ya get, when you get a brand new car? Like, when everything is all cool and stuff.
Well I have that right now. Because I just got boosted. Yes, I finally have forced induction. Its amazing. I love it.
Oh. And the turbo...its attached to this:

Yup, got a new car. 2008 Mazdaspeed3, Grand Touring Edition with Navigation. Priced perfect for what I want. Cassie will be gone tommorow, giving her back to BMW to let them do what they want. It works out for me just fine. Motor pulls strong, boost feels great. The ride is real comfy, well, it was from the dealership. We'll find out tommorow on the drive to work for sure. And yes, its a stick. Tranny feels great, slots in real nice, and thats comming from only driving five and six speed BMWs all summer. She's gonna be stock till the first service check, then after that, intake/exhaust/ecu, and I'll be fine with that. The only thing I want to toss off a bit earlier are the wheels. Other wise, car looks dead sexy to me. More pictures comming soon, a few here and there, then I'm doing a shoot this weekend with a friend's IS300.
Yay.

After the test drive, I can say, you really can't tell its a front driver unless you let it all out in first. Then you can feel the torque steer. Otherwise, its fine, it pulls through the turns much better than Cassie did. LSD=Great control.

It will be interesting to see how those compare to the upcoming 135i with the biturbo.

Most likely not at all. The 135i will most likely be real nasty on the highways and in the 1/4 mile. In a coned enviroment, the Speed3 might have a bit of an advantage. But on an open road course, I think the hats will tip to the 135i. But then again, lets be honest. No matter what they say in the buff books, you'll be hard pressed to get a 135i off the lot for under 40k. However, I don't think that matters.
The cars are in slightly different markets. The type of people (young, fresh outa college, not that rich yet, lol) that will go for the Mazdaspeed3 aren't the same type to go after the 135i. Now, vs a 128i, I think it will be a much much closer match.
Also, for those of you wondering, I have official named the car.
After much deliberation, it was decided that the Speed3, will from now on, be known as Sophie. God I love this car, lol. Now I just need to get a bit better on the clutch, and we will be golden.

grats on the new purchase, awsome car, though one thing you should look into is make sure it had the recall work done, they recently had a massive recall to replace the motor mounts, apparently the car has too much torque and breaks them.
You know what this means right? you cant bash on the 8 anymore, cause you've got the baby of the family, respect your elders.
Also, take that thing to an autocross and test out the handling, it has a very good suspension on it, that what mazda is good at, so be proud of it, cause that is an amazing car there.
Grats!

Lol, I was just about to say that.
Gotian, no worries there. First thing I did when I decided on this one (the purchase process was long, ardous, and full of bullshit from one dealership, short, painless, and pleasing from another...) was check the VIN. Falls far outside the VIN parameters for the failed engine mount.
Though I do find that funny. For the first time ever, and import with a 2.3 four banger is being criticized for having too much torque.

In straight line only, it falls short in handling capabilities when compared to the speed 6 and falls further than the 8 and the miata, but regardless of that the speed3 handles like a beast. I went head to head against one in ft. myers weekend competition and the owner was pushing that thing hard, while I was still taking it easy since I was still learning the car and he came within a second of my time. so seriously take it to the Autocross, you will see how well it takes corners and pulls out of them, really wonderful suspension on it, just wait till mazdaspeed makes some suspension upgrades for it, tat thigh should be on rails. Since with the rx-8 if I upgrade to the MS shocks and springs the car becomes about 70-75% stiffer I can only imagine the MS3 since the speed 3 does have some body roll on it.

Oh and the long and annoying process is for all dealers when you buy the speed 3, cause since mazdaspeed vehicles are limited production they put a dealer mark up fee on them. It's much easier to buy a speed 6, even the RX-8 is a long and I wanna kill the dealer process, speed 6's you just walk in and say I want a speed 6 and they are like oh take one!

Well, one dealer I had been negotiating with had set the price of the GT Speed3 at 23plus TTL. When I went in to sign the papers, they had tacked on a nice 2500 finders fee, and a $200 detail/full tank fee.
Forget that.
I ended up going to the dealership where my mom got her CX-9 (which I should have done in the first place, but no, I HAD to be independent), and within an hour, had signed all the papers off on this one for $24,500, got the navigtion and door ding/wheel/window chip protection warrenty tossed it an no extra cost, and got a much better financing rate, a full point and a half better. So I basically got more and paid less. Awesome.
Suspension bits, when I get them, will most likely be Mazdaspeed, same for exhaust. Intake is a toss up right now.
Interestingly enough, when I was talking to the salesman, he says they are all having trouble moving the Speed6s, and in my area, they have some nice incentives on them. RX-8s don't sell fast but they sell steady, which they prefer.

you had the exact same problem i did when i bought my rx-8, i went to the dealer they were being impatient and they were constantly lying to me, they told me they could get the car i wanted from another dealer as long as they could trade cars, but they then told me the car was sold and tried to sell me another one, I told them no after 2 weeks, then i called the actual dealer who had the car, told them what happened, they said they still had it and it will be waiting when i got there. I got there and took it home the same day and delivered the check from the bank 2 days later. And I got it for less than what the other dealer wanted and the financing was alot lower cause I did it through my bank.
Also that same dealer had 8 speed 6's collecting dust that had massive rebates on them.
Oh and here is a pointer for you to know about mazdaspeed accessories, basically what you should/be worth it to buy :
1) If you want to make the car at like its on rails, you wont find better bang for you buck than MS suspension
2) If you want a deeper sounding exhaust with some nice power gains while still under warranty, nothing beats the MS exhaust
3) don't buy the CAI available from mazda, they use the AEM Intake but just slap Mazdaspeed on it.
4) Though they dont offer it yet, a flywheel, mazda makes high quality flywheels for the same price as the other aftermarket ones, it wont be the lightest flywheel but they take the weight off where it counts resulting in a very high quality steel flywheel with less weight on the edges making it very easy and quick to spin. you could look at the rx-8 MS flywheel as an example. And...it has factory warranty
Wish they would offer turbo upgrades and stuff like that but unfortunately they don't....yet

Those ideas are exactly what I was thinking. Intake wise, I was thinking about going with the Cobb intake. It would take an hour at most for me to do on my own, but me and my bud are planning on doing a couple of project days with our cars anyways. That, and the service advisor that I spoke with while waiting to get all my paper work printed up told me that they are seeing pretty big boost spikes with other aftermarket exhausts.

yeah , but the thing you need to check out are if the exhaust is a turbo back or cat back, obviously the turbo back will give you more power due to eliminating the cat, the problem I see is that mazda ecu's are very picky about their exhausts as they will throw a CEL on you and mazda will definately void the warranty because of that, been done numerous times with the RX-8, also so far, no one has been able to fool the ecu to get rid of that CEL, I would wait a bit before getting a Turboback because Cobb said once they are done working with the reflash for the Supercharger for the RX-8 they are going to work more with reflashing the ECU for the speed6 and speed3. As of right now their reflash is only available for stock, intake, and catback exhaust.
oh and little more info on the shocks and springs, Eiboch, tein, and etc. stiffen the suspension by about 20-30% so its a big difference as opposed to the MS set up. And also my opinion is that the MS3 has plenty of power as it is, It needs some upgrades to the suspension before you upgrade the power, as good as the stock suspension is though the current power is pushing the limits of the suspension already.

Nice choice going with Mazda.
you gonna race it hard? Seems it's a luxury car, so if you want to make her fast you're gonna need to put Sophie on some serious slim-fast!
People are starting to catch on to stock-FI. It's a good thing, but it's killing a generation in my opinion. It used to be that only the hard-core guys had FI. Sure, that was my dad's era, but it all seemed better back then:grinyes:

Actually, not that heavy at all. Just a kick over 3000, 3153 according to Yahoo Autos. Laps Laguna Seca a half second faster than an S2K, according to a good budy of mine. The only wieght loss it'll get might be some new wheels, I'm staying away from all that carbon fiber this and that crap, and keeping the interior stock. Well, stockish. Rice or not, I want a boost gauge and an A/F Gauge at the least. At the RX7club meet I went to last night, everyone said for safety and nothing else, at least get a boost gauge.
Also, just rolled over the 1k mark last night, so times up for some running. Looking to try and set something up with a stock 350Z and SRT-4 to get some good baseline feeling of the car, and after a project day with my buddies IS300, we're gonna run.
At this point, plans are in for an intake in the near future. Maybe a month or so, need to save up a bit more before I can start picking up mods. My hope is that I'll get some Christmas cash for either the Mazdaspeed or Corksport exhaust or the Forge BOV (set up for recirc, duh). Then I'll start looking for seeing what the ECU market has to offer, then wheels and some suspension bits from Mazdaspeed or Cobb. By about that time, I should be up for my company car. After that, its serious project time.

You could easily take the srt by a car or so, if you race a new 350 it might be a neck and neck race seeing as how their gear ratio is alot better and they require 1 less shift than you do down a 1/4.
Also don't buy an intake, the way mazda designs their intake systems are actually better than some of the other intakes out there and you will be wasting alot of money. Example - The K&N intake system actually makes you loose power in the RX-8. Save the 200-300 and get a mazdaspeed exhaust, they sound beautiful and you get some nice gains. Also Cobb as I said before, cobb is working on their reflash for the MS3after the finish the rx-8 supercharged reflash which is almost complete.

Easily take an srt-4? With a good driver its a 13 second car, which seems to be the case with the MS3. Best I've seen for the skittle was a 13.7, can't say the same for Mazda, but it is alot newer.

Easily take an srt-4? With a good driver its a 13 second car, which seems to be the case with the MS3. Best I've seen for the skittle was a 13.7, can't say the same for Mazda, but it is alot newer.

Well, until I figure out the whole launching thing and getting used to a stick launch with power over the launch in the BMW, I'm looking at doing roll races with the 350Z and the Sarty. That is, of course, assuming I can find a stock Sarty.
I'm getting the Mazdaspeed intake only based on the fact I have someone willing to sell me one at 20% of price with no shipping. Gotta love friends of friends really. And all dyno charts I've seen show the Speed3 gains a realistic bit o' power at the wheels with the intake. I need to hear a Speed3 with the MS Exhaust before I make my final call. For now, the exhaust will just be a cat back till I get the company car, then I'm doing one of two things.

SRT-4s are not 13 second cars!
why is it that if one or two cars run a 13.998 all of a sudden it is a 13 second car?
No, ERRRRR, Wrong. There are a few factory freaks, yes and there are people like me who will cheat and run a sock looking SRT-4 on drag radials with the boost spiked and run a 13.7 and then when people ask I tell them its "Stock" and so everyone buys it. Fact is the SRT-4 is statistically a 14.5-14.0 second car.
If we where to run every single SRT-4 ever made stock and add up the numbers and dividethem by the amount of cars we ran the end average would be around 14.2 or so. so stop saying SRT-4s are 13 second car, thats just racist......YES! RACIST!
and I have seen stock MS3s run 13.8, that dossent mean they all run 13.8 stock either.

If you think a stock Sarty is a 13 second car, you are worse than Hitler. LOL!

I'd say they are a 13 second car capable. It is not a freak accident to see one run a high 13 second ET. In fact, a lot of the reviews I have read have tested them at either a 13.9 or a 14.0. I don't care if it is by .1 second or by .8 second, if it is run in 13's with a good driver, it is a 13 second car. And no, it's not like only a few people have ran them in the 13's. Good drivers....yes, but it's not that rare.

Exactly. It's not going to happen all the time, hell probably not a whole lot considering alot of the people i've seen with em can't drive all that well. The fact remains that it can hit 13's.

I still have a theory that the average SRT-4 driver (not all, but the average) has the IQ of a Taco Bell Burrito.

Well then I guess you go to the track alot more often then I do and I guess drivers are just better where you live cause I have had exactly the opposite experience.
oh and btw, if you where an automotive manufacturer and you where about to send off a demo car to be tested and reviewed by magazines and tv shows and you knew that consumers where gonna watch and read the ressults and your sales depend on these tests and articles and shows......would you send a stock car? or would you tweak the demo a bit?
in 2003 PVO sent a batch of tuned and tweaked SRT-4s to various advertisers to do independent testing. Word got out that Dodge was underrating thier sarties to say 215 hp when in reality they where making 230 at the wheels. well I dyno tested my car and I was for a short time in South Florida SRT (car-club) and we moslty made between 215 and 217 at the wheels. dont believe everything you read.

Hey man, it is just from what I have read, and yes, from what I have seen. Just from what I have heard (as I have never witnessed a stock SRT-4 going on a dyno) that they dyno between 215is-235ish depending on the year at the wheels. Along with that I test drove one, and not saying from a test drive you can tell what a car runs, but it definately felt low 14 high 13 second capable. And of course, it depends what kind of dyno you ran it on. Gotian claimed 228 whp from his Jetta which was the biggest joke I have ever heard of. The thing is dynos often show inconsistantcies...depending on the dyno or who is running it for that matter. Either way, everyone had their own opinions and if you choose to belive that a stock skittle is only low 14's........then by all means, do it. It is your own preogavtive.

Speaking of which the shop that Gotian went to is getting sued for selling dyno numbers.
A few guys have had payed out the ass for simple mods like an intake install or a BOV and then dynoed sick numbers, only to realize they have actually lost power according to every other dyno in south Florida.
Gotian never got his car re-dynoed at a reputable shop so we cant say for sure what the numbers on the Jetta are.

What a disappointment. I thought for sure you would get an M3 after all the countless threads and all the talk you did about it.
Then what do you go and do? Buy a Mazda...
:shakehead
Damn man, what are you going to do now when people make fun of you for being a retard and you can't fire back with "at least I drive a BMW"?

See this is why I miss Max. I mean, he may have been a jag off, but at least he was funny about this. This just makes it look like your mom missed with the hanger around the second trimester. Shows a perfect example of why you shouldn't cheap out and go to someone who knows what they are doing...
