That is the link showing the, current pototype for the new rx-8 that will be displayed at this weekends SSX event (seven stock) The most impressive part about this model is the fact that is will feature a brand new rotary design based off the current renesis in the rx-8's. The new engine will still feature 2 rotors but the displacement will be increased from the current 1.3L to a 2.0L. I'm excited about it and I wish I could be able to go to the SSX this year, but my fellow rx-8ers will send some pics my way.

Also some more news, im making a new post instead of thread, the current rx-8 will cease production after the release of the 40th anniversary edition in January. Meaning that the last rx-8 of this style will roll out the lot in january. Production for the "new" model will begins again in april as the RX-8 will be recieving a "face lift", much like the RX-7'(FC model) did when they went from the S4's to the S5's. As far as power upgrades and weight go, so far nothing has been announced.

Motor should be nice, but really...

Do they honestly have to make concepts as fugly as humanly possible? I swear, a blind child with autism and one finger on each hand could do a better job than that.

I personally like the Kabura design much better, and from what mazda is doing (They currently have a working model of the kabura and it's release date is 2010-2011 which is similar to when the rx-8 is going to see a true generation 2) it looks like it could still be a possiblity of becoming a rotary. The only problem i have with this model is that the front is too pointy, which doesnt match the previous rotary designs at all.

I'd love to go to Seven Stock. It would just sound amazing...

"Alright all you RX owners, crank up those engines"

Massive grinding noise and engines trying to start.

Silence.

"Ah son of a bitch..."

Naw thats just the FC's trying to start, don't forget you would hear engines blowing with a nice fireworks display from the FD's with the RX-8 owners laughing till some FD guy goes, "well at least ours has some form of torque" then the 8 owners would hang their heads in shame.

But all in all I would love to go one day.

And then there would be that one guy with the best of both worlds, the FD with an LSx swapped in. Good looking, fast, and it'll start. Well. It'll have a better chance of starting than an FC or FD.

Yeah and the current design of the kabura they are testing has the rx-8 motor in it and the car weighs 25-2600 pounds, ZOMG! freaking 300 pounds lighter than my trim RX-8 (2850 roughly) which is something that would definatly make up the lack of power.

Also the Kabura was decided to be an entry lvl sports car with the price range of 20-22k, How sick is that?

Oh, that's not far at all. I do the fire alarm/supression inspections at their HQ.

I've been all throughout their HQ.

I've also been in a Toyota engine development site where I inspected a CO2 system for their three engine dyno rooms. They weren't running at the time, but they did have a bunch of those 5.7L iForce V8's out of the new Tundras laying around and hooked up to the dyno's.

And I've been in the Mitsubishi headquarters building, doing much of the same where they test vehicles for emissions and general testing of all sorts of data on the road. There I saw the new Lancer long before it came out in the US. They had an EVO8 there from Japan (RHD) that was all wrecked, I think they used it for some form of testing. And a few EVO9's out in the back all beat to hell and wrecked, one of which had a custom hood that was riveted together. Looked like they were testing a new engine setup for maybe the EVOX in a EVOIX body. It was a major hack job and ugly looking... They also have a '99 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 Spyder with less than 3,000 miles sitting in there shop. Thing is mint... and it just gets shuffled around there work shop. A shame I tell you!

Like I said, I'll try my best to get down there if I can.

It doesn't look all that bad, not something I would want to drive based purely on looks. But, you know it won't look like that.

Mushi jr.: Thats cause the old goat has something called torque.
Gotian jr.: OOOOOHHHH so thats what you call it when you turn a corner, cant hold it and run head on into a curb? torque?

^^^ That was a good laugh, sucks I had to hold it in cause im at work.

BTW they posted up pics from SSX on the * forums, gonna link the page. Unfortunately Mazda is being very tight lipped about the new Rotary and decided against bringing it out, BUT they did bring out the Kabura and Guess what? It's a working 4 banger RWD.

It was either a 95 or a 96 spyder as that is the only year they made them. It is possible that they did a 99 front end face lift on it though. I would be surprised if they did though just for the fact most people who have them try not to change them too much because they are worth so much for being just what they are. I do love seeing the tops go down though. :grinyes:

Hmm, you're probably right. It probably is a 95 or 96. But I do remember the guy saying it's got less than 3,000 miles on it. Next time I'm there, I'll make a note to check the mileage on it. And the VIN/Build date sticker on the door jam to see what year it really is.

All I know is it's fairly old, but practically new.

Yeah they are very nice cars. I have got to go up and see only one VR4 Spyder ever. And if you have one of the green VR4 spyders and it is the stock paint that is EXTREMELY rare as they only made two of them. And in both years combined they made less than 1,000 VR4 Spyders. In 1996 they only produced about 350 if I recall right.

You drive a bad ass boosted little devil! YOU SHAME TO NO ONE!
come to think of it I cant think of any FWD sold in the US that can hold a candle to the "Wildchild". The SRT-4 is close behind but its not as consistent as the MS3 (stock to stock) and is no longer in production.
Even in the RWD you still gotta break above 35K or so to beat it.
