I have an 89 tracer and when I try to start it, I have to pump the heck out of it to get it going. It barely idles. Replaced fuel filter, pump does work but haven't checked pressure yet. The spark plugs are all clean and the same color. Can barely drive the car. Doesn't misfire or anything, just can't keep it idling and when driving, have to keep the clutch half in and pump forever to get it to drive. Anyone know what is wrong???

Test the fuel pressure and pull the trouble codes.

Fuel pressure 45 psi and constant. All spark plugs spark, but I unplug them and only 2nd one kills the engine. Plugged injectors?

If only the 2nd one kills the engine it is the strongest cylinder. Get a compression tester and test all the cylinders. How's your air filter? Has it been a while since it's been replaced? Check for a vacuum leak. Make sure the PCV valve is working. Take it out and shake it. It should rattle. You should be able to blow in it one way but not the other way. A PCV valve that is stuck open will make you have to pump the gas to keep it going. Your Tracer is a Ford Escort with the Mercury name. Post a thread on the Escort forum. You will get a much better response.
