Do you sometimes forget about your 1:1?

I do. I have more than one car to mess with, but instead of tweaking them I usually spend my time sanding and priming 1/24 parts over and over again...and when I'm not doing that, I'm probably on here :screwy:
I've been a "car guy" my whole life but since I started building models a few months ago I don't get around to maintaining/upgrading my 1:1 (s) like I used to. I find that I look at real-size upgrade parts and sneer, thinking I can buy half of HLJ for the price of that cat-back exhaust or set of coilovers and camber plates. This hobby, even though it can get expensive, makes the building of real cars look like a tremendous expense.
I still have plenty of 1:1 projects planned, but they're actually taking a backseat to my scale projects at the moment.
Are you guys like this too?
Nick

I feel guilty every time I wax a 1/24 with the Zymol I know I should be putting on my 1/1.... :uhoh:
(Fortunately, it doesn't take much to wax a 1/24!)

doing all the work on my new little project reminds me of what I am going to buy when I get my insurance no-claims up to five years.....

I actually just took a break from 1/24, and have been working on my 1:1, but I dumped about 1500 into it this last month, now I am back at models...I got it to where I want it, and now I am back to this hobby where I can have a scale 1/24 look like a 150,000 car or truck for 25 bucks haha.

Guilty as charged
I drive the world's most dependable and forgiving car, a '96 MX-5. It's 12 years old (actually on the road 11 years, I've had it almost 9 years), 95,000 miles, and aside from normal scheduled maintenance, a couple sets of tires, front brake pads, and one new battery, it's only needed the clutch master and slave cylinders to be replaced (common on MX-5's at about 90K miles). That's it for repairs! I don't wash it as often as I should, but it never lets me down. And it certainly doesn't look 12 years old! My other car is an '88 929, it's required a few repairs over the 112,000 miles and 11 years I've had it (been in the family since new), but overall it's been dirt cheap to own/operate and it looks like a much newer car. Silver/beige metallic, waxed only 2 or 3 times in it's life, and still shines. Guess I'll drive the wheels off it, it has 169,000 miles and my mechanic has one that has well over 300,000 miles.

Never. When I'm at work I daydream about driving my cars. I'm embarrassed but I always do the "triple-take" when I walk away from my cars.

I actually got out of building models for a good long while....well just never made any progress, really. I never got OUT of it. This was due to the fact that I found a new passion in my 1:1 240SX, and I had a good ammount of extra income. All good things must come to an end. We bought a much nicer home, and now that extra money is going towards the house payment. So now I have a half finished 240....not unlike the hundreds of unfinished projects in my closet! Go figure...story of my life. The wife is always telling me to finish SOMETHING!

Hehe, story of my life. I think the biggest problem with unfinished projects is that it's sometimes difficult to justify how much effort you've put into them.

My poor car doesnt get even 1:10 the attention I give to my models. But my car runs pretty well for 15 years old. Get the oil replaced every 5-6K and shes good to go.

if you think about how much you spend on your 1/24 cars and x it by 24... its still not as much as your 1:1 car! so hobbies are quite cheap really ;)

My actual volvo is 10 YO: the only thing I done is change the catalyst since I destroyed landing on a snow's pile :D, 3 or 4 sets of tyres and no other: I done last oil/filter's coupon after 35K Km insthead 15k, but just 'cos pneumatic valves started to annoying with the noise, no oil LOL
I guess I never washed by myself, and I never spent 1 eur of wax, but it seem almost new, they used some good silver+clear, much better than our TS13 ROFL

Not having much experience in this hobby, I still wouldn't call it cheap...but no yearly hobby expenditure is ever going to give me the queasy feeling of dropping 5k on my 1:1's paintjob. Ouch! Driving and personalizing real cars is tons of fun to me too, it's just that in the past, the car was never "right" unless it had basically consumed all of my money...and model cars aren't going to do that ;)

Actually....
I did the opposite. I forgot about my 1/24th,1/20th, and 1/12th scale stuff while I worked on my 1:1
(Check my Avatar)
I sold one, of my two toys earlier this year. I got tired of driving my Goat everyday. (NO A/C)

Actually, i have...
£20 for a brand new 1:24 3000GT ... i doubt a 1:1 brand new would cost £480... although i guess labour costs and time woud be increased if your brand new car cam on plastic sprues :P

a 3000GT kit shouldn't have cost you £20.
I still don't understand how anyone can say this is a cheap hobby.
I don't even want to think how much I've spent on kits in the last month.
The difference between a car and a kit is that a car has more intrinsic value than a kit. Yes, a real 3000GT is going to cost a bit more than £480 but whatever you pay for it, that value is there. Can't say the same for the kit version.
