New to restoring, Need help Identifing, finding body parts. I don't understand how the call the G body the same through the years of 78,79,80,81,82,83,84, and so on. Didn't the body style change in 1980?
Found some suppliers of restoration parts and want to better understand the identification process.

The "G" bodies were the "same" during those years in the fact that many parts were carried over and were interchangeable during those years. That was the beauty of owning one of those models - the bountiful supply of parts. While the body style may have changed, it was more of a cosmetic thing, many of the underlying parts remained the same. A good tool to have access to during a restoration is a Hollander Interchange Manual. Many salvage yards use these to find the interchangeability of parts between models, and for inventory purposes. Copies can be found occasionally on eBay or check some of the salvage yards in your area to see who uses them.

But there were parts that would pretty much fit most of those years. I know things like brake drums, and fuel tanks are interchangeable, but many body parts are not. It depends on which part(s) are in question. If I remember correctly even things like the seats can be used throughout the years. I had a friend who put seats from an '85 Cutlass into his '79 and they worked great.

The body styles were pretty close from 78-87 or early 88
Lots of parts will interchange in these models.

Thanks for mentioning that. I usually suggest something like a club to those that are looking for info. I usually recommend a local club first, then a National one if no one exists, as many local clubs are chapters or have "tie ins " to a national organization. Over the years I have owned Monte Carlos and was aware of their national club as well as the National Impala organization for my '64 Bel Air. They are an excellent source of advice and tech , and their newsletters and other publications have a lot of info and the classified are an excellent source for hard to find parts. (Glad to see you mentioned it since I forgot to this time:cool: )
