My new sleeper project idea.

Polygon

That’s right, I must have another project car, and it must be a sleeper. These three months without a turbo have been hell. I miss the sound of the bov/wastegate when I shift, I miss having a manual, and I miss the low rumble when she idled, and most of all I miss kicking people's asses, rather than just slowly walking away, and I don't think there are too many cars I can do that to with the Vision anyhow.

Here is my plan:

I am going to look around for a 1989 to 1990 LeBaron hardtop with a manual, I don’t care if it is a GTC or not. I am going to look in the paper, but mostly in salvage yards. I hope I can fine a straight bodied clean one. I also don’t care what condition the drive train is in, the engine can be blown and the transaxle can be stripped for all I care, they will be replaced. I plan to spend about five hundred to two grand for the car, depending on the condition. I will then do an engine swap, I’ll drop the forged 2.2L in, but before the engine is dropped in the car will be cleaned up and re-painted. I will also have the engine balanced, blueprinted, ported, and polished before the engine is bolted in. I will then have the Garrett T3 attached to that puppy along with a water cooled intercooler. I will also have the stock Getrag forged five speed bolted on from Chrysler. After that let the modding begin, and as before I have very little planned for the exterior, I plan to make it look like my old LeBaron with very little variation. I will make it a GTC and then do what I had set out to do with the old LeBaron.

This was even more instilled in my mind last night when Neutrino and I were coming back from watching Bond when we were passed like we were standing still by a Mitsubishi Eclipse. From the way and speed he passed us he had to have a turbo, we were entering the free way and he had already gotten past the speed limit, and the onramp was short and uphill. I couldn’t tell if it was a GSX or a GS-T, he had debadged his car, but you could tell by that tale tell whistle of the turbo and the way he took off each time we tried to get close to him. It just made me wish I had the Baron, I could have taken him, the Vision wouldn’t stand a snowballs chance in hell of even keeping up with him.

I MUST HAVE MY BABY BACK.

That is all there is to it. So what do you fine people think? Do you think I should go ahead with this? And I know what some are thinking, why not a DSM? Well because I like going against the grain and being original, plus the LeBaron would be a much less expensive option to get the same results. Otherwise I would go with the DSM.

Well vote away.

I know you're a fan of the LeBaron so it sounds like a good plan. Sounds like you're going to have some fun making it happen.

Alright, who was the smart ass that voted for the stick with the boat and didn't say why?

I hate it when people are negative and then don't have the balls to tell you.

build a dodge daytona I say. Not as much a sleeper by any means, but noone knows what it is, gets a lil more respect, and that way you have something a lil different. Eather that or I say Hell yah, get your baby back and teach some wanna-be's a lesson:bandit:

I would only get a Daytona if it were a 1994 Iroc. Once again same stuff applies. I might look out for one of those as well. Same car, different body style.

As for you Neutrino, imma kill joo!!!

Forget the 2.2L w/turbo, just say the Hell with it and put in a 528ci Hemi. But I guess that all depends on your smog laws. Oh, and your budget would go through the roof. Probably need slicks. Can you say Low 10's??

TerminalVelocity
11-25-2002, 06:25 PM
it would be alot faster than 10's....

Polygon
11-25-2002, 06:30 PM
Hell yes, a 2800 pound car with a 528 Hemi. I could go for that if it were a pure drag car. That would be well into the 8's perhaps 7's. Too bad that it only costs about $20,000 for the engine and they are on back order until the second comming of Christ. I want to make this thing take turns on rails as well, otherwise that would be an all too appealing idea.

Just wait man, next time I see you, imma kill joo!!!

Anyhow; I now have three cars in mind.

1. I would prefer a LeBaron, but finding a hardtop with a manual is proving difficult.

2. Perhaps a Daytona.

3. A Conquest/Starion. I know nothing about these cars, besides the fact that I know I like the looks. Does these things handle well? I don't give a crap about the engine, turbo, or transaxle as they will be replaced. Just let me know anything on this car you might know.

What about those three choices?

Hehe, just wait till I'm done, you will be. LOL :D

Yeah, nobody expected my old GTC to hand them their ass on a silver platter. The looks were priceless, I suddenly realize that I need a digital camera.

Here's (http://www.allpar.com/model/daytona.html) everything you ever needed to know about the Daytona...including the part number of the RWD conversion kit from Mopar, which is designed for 355ci V8 conversion:devil:.

As for the Dodge Conquest/Mitsubishi Starion twins, I know they both had a 2.6liter turbo 4 that can easily be modified to run 13's and well into the 12's on street-tires. I have met at least three people around town with sleeper Starions that run 12's. Here's (http://home.kc.rr.com/newshore/Cars/Car.html) a guy that has one. They have the advantage over the Daytona of having RWD. This place (http://www.racetep.com/dod_mit4.html) will introduce you to modifying one.

Oh, and one last thing...they take well to V8 transplants, especially since they have the RWD platform already...

Yes you are right he should buy a civic and mod that. Nobody will ever expect that. He would be the only one on the street with one.

Though I don't agree with him, at least he had the balls to say why he didn't think I should do this.

A lot of people don't like the looks of the J body LeBaron for some reason, and for some reason a lot of other people simply think it sucks because it is called a LeBaron. It couldn't be further from the truth. I love the way the GTC looks, their handling is superb, they are faster than about 96% of the cars that people drive out there, and they are an original choice. I don't want a me too car, I want to say I drive a GTC and someone says, uhh, oh cool; rather than me too. While the aftermarket isn't that great, I can get it beating Vipers no problem and for cheap. It just seems the way to go to me. Then again not everybody is going to like your choice, so if you don't that’s fine. I still know there are plenty of people that do agree with me, still its just a matter of opinion.

I went around looking at cars the other day and found a white Conquest TSi at the salvage yard where my GTC is at. While I love the looks, it is by no means a sleeper, and I do hate the interior, the seats feel like sitting on concrete and the dash just isn't doing it for me. If I got a Daytona I have decided that it would have to be a 93 or 94, I hate the head lights from the earlier years, and yes I am VERY picky, also NOT a sleeper. I can't find a hardtop LeBaron with a manual though, except perhaps one in Ottawa, and it has engine problems and the guy wants $1,100, it isn't worth that. I'll have to find one closer.

And carrrnuttt, thanks for that info, it helps a lot.

And everyone, thanks for the input.

No prob. Don't miss the specs link in the the Starion owner's page.

The Starion/Conquest is my personal recommendation:D. I've seen a blacked-out one(black rims, body, dark tint, no badges...very Darth Vader) MURDER a Camaro SS on the streets...followed him to a Hooters to ask him about his car...awesome.

All this talk about it is actually making me think of getting one:).

Why not the older Body styles because if you are complaining about how they look I would think that you don't care about looks considering you are fixing up a Lebaron.

this was going to be for my second car, I would have to put about 1000 into it to get it to run right anyway....

Once again, matter of opinon. I really like the looks of a J body LeBaron, namely the GTC. My complaint with the older Daytons, is that I don't like those pop-up headlights, they look cheap, plus the Daytona isn't really a sleeper. I am going to hold out for the right LeBaron, if that doesn't work then I will go with the Daytona or Conquest.

Starions are the shit! The only problem I have is the fact that they didnt come with multiport injection. But they will run like a bastard with the two that it has. I now people who have takin them into 13's with the 2 stock injectors. www.t-racing.com this is a link to a guys conquest that he got to do 13's on a fully stock motor. I am building my car for 13's as we speak. Being that they are 2.6 the amount of torque produced is ungodly. The handleing is superb! These cars were built for road coarses and as a matter of fact. They still hold records to this day! Stock with LSD and ABS. Being that they are turbo and older there is alot of looking out to do. I know I run mine hard. I imagine you probably already new that.

LOL LOL LOL god damn I plan to use that soon in real life

My friend has a 1994 LeBaron GTC Convertable. He likes it, its slow though. V6 140 hp. My truck keeps up if not *barely* pulls away [ lil i-4 143 hp stick, his is auto.]
Anyways, I told him soneone on the AF is making the Lebaron fast sleeper and he got all proud. Too bad he's getting a Focus soon. Not even SVT :(
