My sleeper project idea.

That’s right, I must have another project car, and it must be a sleeper. These three months without a turbo have been hell. I miss the sound of the bov/wastegate when I shift, I miss having a manual, and I miss the low rumble when she idled, and most of all I miss kicking people's asses, rather than just slowly walking away, and I don't think there are too many cars I can do that to with the Vision anyhow.
Here is my plan:
I am going to look around for a 1989 to 1990 LeBaron hardtop with a manual, I don’t care if it is a GTC or not. I am going to look in the paper, but mostly in salvage yards. I hope I can fine a straight bodied clean one. I also don’t care what condition the drive train is in, the engine can be blown and the transaxle can be stripped for all I care, they will be replaced. I plan to spend about five hundred to two grand for the car, depending on the condition. I will then do an engine swap, I’ll drop the forged 2.2L in, but before the engine is dropped in the car will be cleaned up and re-painted. I will also have the engine balanced, blueprinted, ported, and polished before the engine is bolted in. I will then have the Garrett T3 attached to that puppy along with a water cooled intercooler. I will also have the stock Getrag forged five speed bolted on from Chrysler. After that let the modding begin, and as before I have very little planned for the exterior, I plan to make it look like my old LeBaron with very little variation. I will make it a GTC and then do what I had set out to do with the old LeBaron.
This was even more instilled in my mind last night when Neutrino and I were coming back from watching Bond when we were passed like we were standing still by a Mitsubishi Eclipse. From the way and speed he passed us he had to have a turbo, we were entering the free way and he had already gotten past the speed limit, and the onramp was short and uphill. I couldn’t tell if it was a GSX or a GS-T, he had debadged his car, but you could tell by that tale tell whistle of the turbo and the way he took off each time we tried to get close to him. It just made me wish I had the Baron, I could have taken him, the Vision wouldn’t stand a snowballs chance in hell of even keeping up with him.
I MUST HAVE MY BABY BACK.
That is all there is to it. So what do you fine people think? Do you think I should go ahead with this? And I know what some are thinking, why not a DSM? Well because I like going against the grain and being original, plus the LeBaron would be a much less expensive option to get the same results. Otherwise I would go with the DSM.
Well vote away.

Well, I'd rather have something RWD for a little more fun in the twisties, but that's because I live out in the boonies...
Ahead full steam, don't stay trapped by the Vision!

Of course Mavericks can be cool! Just rip off the bumpers and all the trim, redo the interior, replace the suspension with Fox body stuff, and replace the engine with a 392 stroker based off of a 351 windsor! 9" differential, 4 speed, ready to go!

How much I would love to rebuild a classic, I can't afford it. I am waitong to see if they revive a classic and put the new Hemi in one. That is what I am looking forward to.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks Mavericks have great potential for being cool!

Looks sweet, except for the bumpers... that would be a later Maverick? 73 or older I think...

Sorry for jacking your thread Polygon ;)
I was thinking an early 70s Dart, with the blackout grill, steel wheels and one of them new crate hemis...
This one is a bad example, because of it's vinyl top, but you can see what I'm getting at, nice clean lines, agressive styling, but very clean.

Of course, I may be a bit partial, there is a 76 Dart Swinger sitting parked in my driveway right now, waiting for restoration ;)

Yeah, that one you posted has the later bumpers, the big heavy ones. The earlier Mavericks had the little bumpers like the ones I posted, and you can take them right off.
They look really cool without the bumpers on...

Get a 2nd gen supra and turn it into a monster. They are very oldskool and their much lighter than the later models.

Well, these are Mavericks from Brazil, with the old style bumpers, the light little ones...

This a 73+ front bumper, you can see it's huge and heavy... I couldn't find a good pic of a Maverick with the bumpers pulled, but they look badass.
