i just replaced the ign switch and lock cylinder in a 2002 monte ss.
i have power but it will not start. do i need to have the keys programmed for the car and if so does it have to be done at the dealer?

Try this. Make sure that all of the electrical connectors are fastened properly. This sounds like it could be the park/lock cable on the ignition switch. Did you conduct this repair with the battery disconnected? If the car started before the repair it is safe to assume that it was an error in installation. Turn the car to accessory, and move the shift lever all the way to 1st and then back to park. The car will not start if it is not in park. This is a safety feature that can sometimes get a bit wonky. Try starting the car. I would also check your fuse box because you could have popped a fuse if you did not disconnect the battery. Also check the passlock connector. The service manual does not say to reprogram anything. It should be a plug and play.

thanks for the reply, yes i have checked fuses and the park interlock.the problem started when the key got stuck in the off position and would not
turn.so i figured just replace the key set.well if the key doesnt turn you cant remove the lock so i wond up replacing the switch as well.no big deal until we hooked up the battery and it would not start.i looked at a few of the other posts and tried the key relearn process but it hasnt worked.im thinking now it has to go to the dealer and be checked for codes that might be preventing it from starting.i hate this passlock system!
