That's simple, Peugeot sold the 405 and 505 in the States untill 1991 ! You'll be able to see Peugeot everywhere, in Japan, in Australia, NZ, South America, Africa, Russia, Asia, and of course Europe.

The range ....

If you don't see to which category belong these cars, the competitor on the American market could be, for the :
106 : the MCC Smart which is smaller (soon sold in NY and SF)
206 : the Golf (bigger)
307 : the Golf
406 : the Passat
406 coupé : BMW 3 Ci Series
607 : Audi A6, Chrysler 300M
807 : Chrysler Town and Country

The best seller in Europe is a Peugeot (the 206).

I like the looks of the 406 Coupé best. Have to do some more looking into that one when its time to buy the next sedan.

Yes the 406 Coupé is very nice. It has been designed by Pininfarina. But you won't have it in the US, because the 406 is "old" (appeared in 1996, 97 for coupé and SW) and you'll discover its replacer, the 407 in 2005 (sold here in 2003 or 2004).

I'm definitley picturing the 4O7 as a shrunken 6O7

Bu in Italy these cars are extremely common- only FIATs are seen more than Pugs.

However- Peugeot should be able to sell a Top of the line V6 SE 6O7 in the US for about US$40,000- this is the price they are sold for in New Zealand- which I believe is cheaper than in France- however- the rising New Zealand dollar has made the 6O7 price in New Zealand look pretty standard in todays world. In fact the NZ and Australian prices are now about even. Also they get the 4O6 Coupe V6 for about US$35,000- so there is definite potential for cheaper prices- however we must keep in mind that NZ has no import tarrifs as opposed to the US.

I reckon that one thing they could do is make a boring 3O7 sedan for the US market- it'd be a surefire hit- if you see how the Civic has done over there (Where you can get it as a Sedan or Coupe)

A 607 V6 pack (leather, "double windows", etc.) cost about 42 000 € here too, it's the same price as in NZ. The 406 Coupé V6 Pack is 36 000 €. Add about 1 800 € for an automatic.

There are people who wants some automatic gears... not me neither !!! Nothing worth a manual gear !
So, did you replace your 156 ?

The replacement 156 gets here next Wednesday I pick it up on Saturday when I come back from Switzerland

I still reckon that the 4O6 Coupe 3.0 should be manual only :(

I reckon they should have done a 4O6CC to compete with the 3 series convertable:D

Stefanel1

And what do you think about these cars only available with automatic ?
Like the Laguna V6, Vel Satis V6 and V6 dci, all the 7 Series, all the S Class, Cayenne turbo, S8, E55 AMG, etc. etc.
It's a pity to me.

I think every car should at least have a manual option- on the lighter side- the M5 only come witha 6-speed manual:D

Stefanel1

I think the same. Indeed the M5 is safe :D All the 5 series range : from the 520i to the 540i and the diesels, have manual gears : good think. I hope that they will continue on the future 5 series.

Will the 406(7) come with the option of awd - or more apropriatley do they make a "rally" version of the hatchback like subaru and mitsbishi do?

Stefanel1
01-13-2003, 06:25 AM
Peugeot spoke about that, but the idea was no retained. But could change of mind. Wait and see ;) No SUV for Peugeot today; only one for Renault, the scénic RX4, and a "real" one with the Koléos which will compete with the X5 in 2005-2006.

The 4O7 doesn't have a 4paw option- it is exculsivley FWD- as is the whole range- no 4Wd's for the PSA.

I REALLY think they should do a WRC inspired version of the 2O6 though- since they ARE the best Rally cars in the competition:D

I'd love to show up some Wankers in thier Evo 7's and WRX STi's in a little Pug

I'd rather see the SMART or the Renault Espace diesel come over here. I'd put a full deposit down on either of those.

Stefanel1
01-14-2003, 01:48 PM
If you want a 206 WRC, Peugeot will maybe make one !! And you've the Clio V6 255 hp if you want a little and vrey powerfull car.

DMC12 : the Smart will be sold in NY and SF for US$15 000. For the Espace, Renault forsees to come back in the USA arroud 2008... it's long : as always, french makers feel the cold... :(

206's are my favourite car. If they ship em', I'd buy one. I can only see some problems, no places for mods, no parts, no service. Hopefully then will come to canada as well, not just USgAy.

Stefanel1
01-14-2003, 02:17 PM
USgAy .... ah, always love between US and Canada :D Are you English or from Quebec ?

I don't know if there will be 206 in North America : you'll probably see its replacer, the 207, as nice, I saw the first pics (www.autojournal.fr). The first Pug there should be the 407.
But you could import a 206, some people do import Seat, Alfa, Peugeot, etc. in the US or Canada and it's not sold there.

Stefanel1:

Where did you hear that Peugeot is returning to the US? I couldn't imagine them (officially) coming back to the States before 2007. And the last I heard, returning to the US was "possible" in the long-term but not in the plans.

It's officially unofficial... ;) But Peugeot will come back, some magasine say that and PSA doesn't say the contrary.

It's a funny car. I though it was boring to drive it, and it is outside of towns. Do not expect to overpass 80mph. But in big cities like Paris, London, Roma, etc. and maybe even American cities, it's very cool : you can park everywhere, it's very powerfull when you start, it's big enough inside.
Well, an excellent car for big towns with tiny roads and rare places.

>BlueCivic : wasn't it a 306 that you saw ? (look at the picture).

It's an Alfa Romeo 159 and not a Peugeot... Don't really understand your post.
But as we speak about Alfa, they are coming back in the US. Next year for the 8C (with a V8 Maserati) and some months later for the 159, Sportwagon, Spider and Brera. The 149 and 169 and maybe the Junior should come too, but these cars will appear in Europe in 2008-2009.

For Peugeot in North America, alas, and again, it's delayed. But Christian Streiff, the new CEO of PSA should make something more. Let's hope this turn back for 2010.

yeah, so now i know that peugeot didnt make it to us yet... i hope they do sometime soon, im looking at the 207 cc or the 407... are they reliable cars? and how are they on upgrades? i've looked everywhere to find out about peugeot in U.S. but this thread set me straight... thanks for all the info... but just one more question... is it possible to import a 207 cc into us? buying it brand new, and shipping it here would be a little bit expensive right? around how much do you think it would cost from buying it to finally being able to legally drive it in states?

although the price is high, it will pay off having one of the very few newer model peugeots in the us.

are they RWD?

Stefanel1
08-24-2007, 09:37 AM
Peugeots in general are reliable cars. My father has for example a Citroën Evasion Hdi (diesel) which is the same as the Peugeot 806, it is from 2001 and has 260 000 km (160 000 miles) without having a problem. He just replaced it by a C4 Picasso. We had also 3 Coupé 406 (two Hdi and one gas), no problem.

207 and 407 especially are reliable too.
The 207 CC costs 18 000 to 26 000 euros (USD22 000 to 31 000) and is available in 3 motorisations : 1.6 16v 120hp, 1.6 16v 150hp and 1.6 Hdi 16v (diesel) 110hp. The gas engines are made in collaboration with BMW and available on the brand new Mini. The 1.6 16v 170ch of the 207 RC should appear on the CC.
The 407 costs from 22 000 to 41 000 euros (USD 27 000 to 50 000). Engines, gas : 1.8 16v 125hp, 2.0 16v 141hp, 2.2 16v 163hp and 3.0 V6 24v 211hp. Diesel : 1.6 Hdi 16v 110hp, 2.0 Hdi 16v 136hp, 2.2 Hdi 16v 170hp and 3.0 V6 24v 204hp.
407 SW : + 1 300euros (USD + 1 600)
407 Coupé from 30 000 to 46 000 EUR (USD 36 to 55 000).

Just for information !

To bring one in the US, you have to add at least USD 2 000 for the shipping. But you can also buy one in South America which will be less far for you (look on Peugeot.com all the countries where Peugeot is available).
To verify, but I've heard that you can, as a private owner of the car, import one without making big modifications. In this case, you should have your car for the European price + shipping (more or less USD 2 000) + some other fees (less than 1 000 I think).
Then if you decide to buy one, you've to know that the price is not the same from one country to the other in Europe. For example, in Danemark, taxes on cars are very high, so the price without taxes (you should pay American taxes) is lower than in France, Italy or Germany for example.

"and how are they on upgrades?" I don't understand your question... What do you mean ? (my English is not excellent ;)).

All Peugeot are FWD except the 4007, SUV 4x4.

For fun : pics of some current Peugeots in the USA : http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=705698
